My daughter, the ICU nurse, tells us they're running out of what they call "personal protective equipment" -- the disposable gowns, gloves, masks, etc they wear when they care for patients. Doctors are standing in the doors to patients' rooms and communicating with them via cell phones so they don't have to change for every patient. Nurses, OTOH, have to actually be with the patients to clean them, take vital signs, administer meds, etc.
This is a problem for the medical personnel, of course, but it's also important for patients because the medical personnel go from patient to patient and they don't want to be vectors of disease themselves.
Happily, although her hospital has been preparing for this for months, they still have a very modest number of cases. Pretty remarkable luck for a city this size!
Meanwhile, my grandson will be with us for the foreseeable future and the occasional visits from mom may be restricted to the phone and FaceTime. That's a decision she'll be making. I'm so glad he's a happy kid who grew up living in our guest house for his first 7 years so this hasn't seemed strange to him. ...yet.
Not so sure how Easter's going to work this year. At least he's past the Easter Bunny stage and probably wouldn't have had a lot of patience for that stuff anyway at this point. But, surely, he'll want his mom and dad here for the celebration.
