That was the day my mother officially told me that I had to start lying about my age so she could keep up her own little chronology farce. Luckily, she was kidding (mostly, anyway,) but my best friend's mother wasn't. She still gets irritated when we let on how old we are around her .., and she's over 85! (Oooh - I'm gonna be in BIG trouble ... don't tell her I told!)
Baba was VERY similar for me. She was Gramma on Dad's side. She had been saying she was 31 for decades. Well, time came for my 30th birthday and I laughingly said "Baba next year I'll have caught up to you." She laughed in truth. The next year I got to say I was the same age.... She blushed and laughed genuinely.
The next year.... And every year after that I got to say I was 'older then her' - all this was in family circles and family friends too. She completely loved the attention that we respected her age as 31 'and holding' for many years. She used that phrase the rest of her life. (Happy sigh)

She passed away last Sept at 103, just weeks from 104!

Thanks for the spark to bring back this fond memory! May you have just as fond memories from others in here as well.

Years ago, when my kids were small, the babysitter asked them how old I was. They looked so innocent when they told her they didn't know, but they're sure I had to be at least a 100 by now! that poor babysitter had such a hard time keeping a straight face! Since then, whenever anyone asked, I always told them I had to be at least 100 by now. Was always taught you never ask a lady her age, weight, etc so they deserved a smart a** answer if they dared ask. Of course my basic personality is smart a** anyway, so just can't help myself. Lol

Wicked hot here today, high 80s and humid. I went out for a while and came back in. I think I may go out again and paint the little chick safe area for the bantam cochins. Then make a door and staple on wire to keep adults out.
I was out too long yesterday working on stuff, so when my local forecast said 77 for today, I thought good, I'll get a few quick things done before lunch and spend the rest of the day inside baking.
Pfft, by 10:00 am it was 80.
By 2:00pm it was 90!! That's when they changed the forecast to say the high would be 91.
That's also when I was forced to kick on the AC because we were melting inside. 🥵

Send it a little bit north, would you? I am SO ready for the heat!
Be glad to!
I'll plug in the turbo fan tomorrow and send the 78 **cough**..... 92.... **cough** degree weather your way.

That's a WONDERFUL story. And your Baba truly was 31 ... with nearly 73 years of experience!

Absolutely! She doesn't actually graduate until next week. Yesterday was a really neat photo shoot offered by a local photographer whose granddaughter graduates from another local high school. He is taking of pics of any grad who wants them - with and without their masks, as a set - at cost. Our site was a historic covered bridge in a local wildlife management area - and it was WAY COOL! We took Crazy Dog with us, just to give her a run and see how she reacted to wildly running water (by running wildly, as it turns out.) The photog loved her (go figure, the crazy monster!) and included her in the pictures. I can't wait to see how they turn out!
One crazy thing that happened was that a perfect stranger saw DD walking back to the car in her cap and gown (pretty as a picture, I might add!) and congratulated her with a $20 dollar bill! SO, Blonde Lady at Fair Hill, if you're out there reading this ... know that your kindness made a huge impact on my daughter. For now, at least, she plans to frame your gift to remind her that there are good, kind people and that not everything that comes out of this mess of her graduation year is negative!
Sincerely, One Happy Mama!

That is awesome! 😄😄😄

Yesterday was an emotional and interesting day. My youngest DD Graduated HS. It was supposed to be last weekend, but they had to come up with a way to do it differently this year. Normally it's held inside, this year it was held outside. The students were seated 6 feet apart from each other in the front court yard and the families all had an assigned numbered square on the front lawn spaced 6 feet apart from each family group. It's a small town, so only 22 in her class this year.
The ceremony was short and sweet. When the kids names were called the super attendant would place their diploma on the statue in the court yard, step away and the kid would walk up to get it. The Principle would then say something about each kids accomplishments. A local radio station broadcasted it, so those who wanted to be there but were not allowed close enough to here could listen to it on the radio.
It was also live streamed for anyone who could not come could see it.

After it was done, they had a parade. All the seniors were driven up and down Main st. They were led by the police, fire dept. and the EMT vehicles. Sirens blaring the whole time. It was amazing to see how many people came out to congratulate them. This was one graduation that no one will ever forget!

My DD is the one in black and the other is her best friend.

Years ago, one of my girls asked how old I was. I told her (I've never been one to lie about my age - I earned every one of those birthdays!) and her response was a shocked, "WOW!" ... followed by a genuinely impressed, "You're not as OLD like DADDY!"
Lemme tell you, I got a LOT of mileage out that with five-years older Daddy!

Hmmm ... your weatherman sounds a bit like ours ... I distinctly remember e-mailing him a few years back, telling him I was tired of shoveling "Partly Cloudy" out of my driveway!
