Baba was VERY similar for me. She was Gramma on Dad's side. She had been saying she was 31 for decades. Well, time came for my 30th birthday and I laughingly said "Baba next year I'll have caught up to you." She laughed in truth. The next year I got to say I was the same age.... She blushed and laughed genuinely. That was the day my mother officially told me that I had to start lying about my age so she could keep up her own little chronology farce. Luckily, she was kidding (mostly, anyway,) but my best friend's mother wasn't. She still gets irritated when we let on how old we are around her .., and she's over 85! (Oooh - I'm gonna be in BIG trouble ... don't tell her I told!)
The next year.... And every year after that I got to say I was 'older then her' - all this was in family circles and family friends too. She completely loved the attention that we respected her age as 31 'and holding' for many years. She used that phrase the rest of her life. (Happy sigh)
She passed away last Sept at 103, just weeks from 104!
Thanks for the spark to bring back this fond memory! May you have just as fond memories from others in here as well.
