Coronavirus, Covid 19 Discussion and How It Has Affected Your Daily Life Chat Thread

I mean when you're testing literally tens of thousands of people there's going to be some errors no matter how many times you double check. Always better to be safe than sorry. I'm not going to just stop seeing doctors because one false positive HAPPENED to reach me.

TBH, the colleges should just be online though. People in college should just spend this year knocking out mandatory credits online at a community college and then transfer IMO.

We saw some friends who have 2 college age sons, both were COVID tested by their university upon arrival back in the dorm. Both tested "positive" and subsequently kicked out of dorm and told to quarantine.

Sons both felt fine, no symptoms so came home to parents who took them to their docs and retested. Both came back negative for COVID. They have continued to feel fine with no symptoms. Parents plan to retest again in a week or so.

More and more factual stories like this are coming to light. I suggested that they pull their sons out of this university.
Certainly not all tests are created equal. Until reliable tests can be done in minutes, we're flying blind.
But with 190,000 dead in the US and approaching one million dead globally, not to mention the ongoing health issues among those recovered, the best approach is better to be safe than sorry. Or to put it another way, safe or dead.

Anyone here start to think more self sufficient... or just me
I think we should be more self sufficient but if you look at the populations of big cities it really isn't a option. Say approx 1,500 people per New York City block and the amount of Space you would need to produce your own veggies, protein etc...it's really not feasible. The option is to make the entire USA as a nation become self sufficient so that we can nurture our producers and be able to have a system within our country that makes it possible to keep even the little farmers in business that were driven out when we started exporting everything in volumes sustainable farmers could not compete with. A divided nation can not achieve this.

I have heard 'entire' used to mean a stallion or bull, don't remember in what context.
And to be a purist, a stud is the farm where stallions are housed and breeding takes place. i agree that the term is often used referring to a stallion, but it's actually the place where they might reside.
So there! :wee
Mary
Well, what's it called when the stallion travels to the breeding farms where the mares reside? He's still an intact boy doing his business because some breeds do not recognize AI.

Though to be fair, the farms where horse owners keep breeding stallions are commonly called stud farms vs where as the mares and foals generally reside on breeding farms.
And farms where both reside it is often said "stallion 'So and So' is standing stud at farm XYZ."
It also depends on the animal. "Stud" can used to label animals other than horses, or more correctly, stallions. So :tongue
Anyone here start to think more self sufficient... or just me
Been doing it for years, but events of late have me focusing more on it because since moving it's been easier to find what have needed and both my garden and livestock spaces are smaller than they were.
Not the best source but;

The sturgis rally results came back pretty grim.

The study itself the report is based on seems legit. :T

I was just about to post the same reports. It's even on faux news...wonder if anyone of that persuasion will pay attention.
The information itself is mind numbing...less than 500,000 people attended and it's responsible for over 250,000 cases so far and some deaths already. Nearly 20% of all of August's cases.
There are just no words...

I am literally in park on the highway right now and have been for like 20-30 minutes :lau not going anywhere anytime soon. :barnie

According to news reports the new postmaster general, a political appointee/donor, had been doing cuts for a little while now and just recently came out and said.."Yes, we are making cuts and changing procedures." (paraphrasing) Something employees have been saying for a while now.
It looks from the outside that these changes were not approved by the review board (or whomever the group is that makes appropriate decisions about the USPS) and may have been made against regulations. (Don' know how the USPS runs and was only half paying attention)

At any rate people are not getting their important medications in the mail because first class mail and express shipping has been changed unbeknownst to them.

I can't begin to wonder how much this will effect eggs and chicks until things get fixed.
I have friends in Vermont who just received their SECOND order of dead chicks - to the tune of 150 per order. That was supposed to be their family's winter meat. They're gonna get awfullt tired of venison, this year!
