Reading all this from abroad is frightening.

Where I am in Latin America, COVID peaked in July-September and is now relatively stable. Precautions still need to be taken, but it isn’t exploding like in the US. Kids are still in virtual classes. The university students are still at home.

People wear masks to go shopping. The only places I see ppl without masks are either on their own lot or property or farm, or indigents or drunks.

Ppl have started eating out, though. Last week, I ordered takeaway for my first restaurant food since March. The portion was so big I couldn’t eat it all.

There is a political right wing here. The important thing is that they don’t deny COVID. Neither does the left wing. Or the church. Or anybody.

I have a personal reason for which I would normally fly back to the US at this time.

I won’t do that until this situation gets under better control and some public health leadership exists in the US. I am too scared to expose myself to the US at this time.

Very good decision.

Why do folks not get it ?
Because Peepul iz STOOPID!
I'm not entirely over my bout with Covid yet, and I've already been asked to make a grocery drop, a pharmacy run and pick up kids from school. I mean, really, people, what parts of "tested positive" and "quarantine" aren't registering?
And now, I've just lost my job for the fourth time since March. Our public school system just shut down face-to-face instruction again through December 7th ... at which point they'll "revaluate." Looks like we're done for the calendar year, with no unemployment bennies for most of us.

Interesting article, ChocolateMouse!

And I see that MROO has responded at least with a thumbs up to some posts in the last couple days so I'm thinking she's read of everyone's concern. I hope it encourages her and speeds her recovery.
I'm sorry I haven't responded as much as i should. It's all I can do, sometimes, just to sit at the computer for a few minutes. I'm doing okay, really, all things considered. I just have to keep my trips downstairs short so I can disinfect before anyone else gets near my space. My biggest issue is my bronchitis. As soon as I start moving around a little bit, the hacking starts all over again ... which makes spreading "stuff" more likely ... so I stay put and do brief stints. Still waiting on test results for DS. He's been pretty sick, but holding his own.
Thanks, everybody, for the concern - please know that it's shared right back to everyone else fighting this mess.

And so over this weekend, Texas has launched past 1 million cases. Thursday or Friday of this week the record kept being broken every successive day.... Last I saw/heard NPR was 152K in one day... IIRC.

(Heavy sigh)
Y'all be vigilant and as sane as possible out there.

Finished my drive!

Lady wasn't wearing a mask. No surprises, got in and out fast and kept my distance and wore my mask.

Someone had to be thrown out of my partners work for not wearing a mask. He was escorted out by the cops bodily screaming about "freedom". Some folks be cray.
I wonder what the person screaming freedom would do if he was being operated on and surgeons and nurses weren't wearing masks citing freedom to do as they pleased.
