Why is there an assumption that people who are unemployed choose to be? Or that the vast majority of unemployed are also unvaccinated? There are a lot of unemployed single parents who have no one to look after their children and for that reason cannot go to work. There just seems to be an awful lot of resentment toward the unemployed as a whole, and they don't all deserve that

I don't think people have a problem with the unemployed. I have an issue with people who stay home and pay their bills with money I earned. I need to get vaccines and drug test for the pleasure of going to work 6 day, 12 hours at 66yo so someone else doesn't have to. That's money I can't use to raise MY children. ( Walk a mile in MY shoes!)

Another friend judged a field trial and was in close proximity to him for an entire day last weekend. Potentially all who were there have been exposed.

As @hispoptart , and others have mentioned, many vaccines are required for some workers, school children ,and travelers going abroad. We are required to wear clothes in public, wear seat belts, not fire bazookas at home, lots of things that limit our 'freedoms' so we can function in society.
This one vaccine is a hot button issue only because of some politicians and 'influencers' deciding to push fantasies.
I'm 'more mature', and the only well tested vaccine I've had was the smallpox vaccine, which we all got, for good reasons. Had that one twice, myself. Then the DPT vaccine was pretty new, and got that one, and since several times. Would have loved to have missed having measles, German measles, and chicken pox, and our children got those vaccines when they came out.
Polio vaccines, got them as soon as they came out too.
And rabies vaccines? Had two experimental ones while in college, and a few well tested ones since.
I don't get the problem people are having with this extremely well tested C-19 vaccine.

Would you suggest expanding or reducing mandates?

I suggest equity. Need a vaccine to work? Should also need a vaccine to get benefits. On unemployment because you were let go for any reason besides not getting vaccinated and don’t need a vaccine? Laid off because you don’t get a vaccine should also be eligible for benefits. Some places are giving options like either vaccine, or weekly covid testing.
