I'm not certain that it will ever be done. It's a coronavirus - just like the common cold it is constantly mutating. All that I know is that I have not had so much as a cold in the past 19 months. (Probably just jinxed myself.) I may be masking for the rest of my life in crowded, indoor situations.
I have notice the same regarding wearing the mask has never gotten me the cold. Getting the flu shot also helped me too.

I think we need to keep the mask for another future pandemic. Scientists says more will follow in the future years to come.

I use N95 masks, and also use them for coop cleaning type chores. And I agree that the last year with no colds has been a good thing coming out of this. The people overseas who routinely wear face masks in public have had the right idea all along!

They do come in handy for cleaning coops, cleaning the ash out of the fireplace, and wearing when California is on fire, which is too often :(. And like many others, I too have enjoyed not having a cold or flu since this madness began.

I've been using masks ever since I got a little scare from cleaning my coop. I deep cleaned a deep litter coop w/no mask, put zeolite in on fresh shavings, and ended up with a cough for the next 2 weeks. Scared me to death, especially after reading a thread on BYC from someone who cleaned a coop unmasked and got horrible, debilitating symptoms. They haven't logged on in months.

Definitely keeping my masks after COVID isn't as much of a concern anymore for the next pandemic. It's foolish to think that we'll never have another pandemic, that's just basic science.

I got on the mask up for cleaning band wagon as a result of the pandemic.
...And hadn't been sick until recently. My son brought home a standard cold from daycare in his first week and our whole household has had it. His cough wouldn't go away though, so when we went to have it checked out again last week they discovered that he was developing pneumonia. Scared me to death. He's doing just fine now after multiple daily nebulizer treatments, heavy hitter antibiotics, and steroids, but it just baffles me how some people can take such risks with Covid. He just had a cold that turned nasty, I can't imagine how much worse a severe case of Covid would be for a young child.
