Seniors are mostly set in their ways. I am a senior also (74) but, change my ways when I find what is better for me and works best.

My dad, 67, with bad lungs, Silicosis from working bluestone quarries here has refused to get the vaccine, I can't change his mind.
Maybe his 'impeccable immune system' as he says will be good enough to get him through IDK? But it's up to him, I ain't going to hound him to get vaxed his decision.
He points out that three of us in my family vaxed got it anyway and 80% get mild symptoms without vax.
Yeah but, that 80% that get no symptoms unvaccinated say it goes to 90% if vaxed , I don't know where I fall,
I could have been in that 80% group or maybe with some family history of heart probs I could be in that next 10% that benefited from being vaccinated IDK? I personally decided to roll the dice with what I hope a little bit of advantage.
He also says 99% of people survive covid.
Yo dad, do you realize that means in a country that has a population of 330million that means 3.3million dead, we are at about 3/4 of a million dead, so you say we got a long ways to go yet???
Stay safe Diva! My dad has, just staying away from people, waiting for the virus to downgrade itself to a cold. Prob best thing to do. You can get the virus and spread it, wearing a mask while vaccinated.

This one argues that people who choose to not get vaccinated can be a danger to others by spreading the virus especially to those who are more likely to have serious consequences not of their making.

If they can come up with a highly accurate "I'm immune" test and card to go along with the "vaccination card" I can see that as substitute for vaccinating all. But haven't there been cases of people having Covid a second time? I wonder how they would test on the "I'm immune" test before the second infection. Perhaps their personal immune system is weak to start with?

I think we have to consider the mutations we've been through. The flu shot is an educated guess of what they think will be prevalent strains of upcoming yrs flu season. Sometimes they guess wrong, and ppl end up w/"the flu". But even then, we get some relief from being vax'd bc it isnt as severe of an illness as it otherwise wld have been.
The same will be true w/covid. We have new strain now coming on - Delta PLUS; explanation above regarding flu is what they're seeing in vaxd ppl - they can catch it, spread it, get sick, but sickness is not as life threatening as w/o vax. New strain is 10x more transmissable than previous. Delta itself was/is 40-60% more transmissable than Alpha had been. It's less a reflection of our immune system's weakness (though that makes us more likely target) as it is an indication of this virus' ability to mutate in order to survive.

You have less than a 1% chance of getting covid a second time according to statistics right now.
Sounds like they need a "I'm immune" test and card to go along with the "vaccination card" because vaccinated while wearing a mask get covid, spread it, and can still die from covid.
If those four studies are correct, natural immunity is superior to the current vaccines, and the vaccines actually have detrimental effects to the superior natural immunity, makes no sense what so ever for politicians and employers to use strong arm tactics to try to force these people to be vaccinated.

As long as it's the same strain or mutation. Look at flu- all vaxs have A(H1N1), A(H3N2), a cpl of influenza B viruses. If a virus comes along that is likeone of those, we get some protection. But if the virus we're exposed to is C or D, we get no protection- it's not in there. And getting protection isn't a 100% guarantee you won't get sick, just not as sick.
Maybe we can build immunity against it on our own, but it doesn't happen as quickly as you're thinking. When you have 1000s of ppl dying daily & your economy risks flatlining, waiting for herd immunity is suicide.
It's easy to shrug off the deaths as collateral damage when they are happening in another ctry-we saw, sadly, even another state. But when it's your spouse, your child, your provider-basically someone you love or need- hearing "collateral damage" says your loved one-you- don't matter. Likewise, going in public w/o being aware if we've been exposed and thus shedding virus, exposing others bc we refuse to wear a mask or take precautions, says the same thing. But if WE end up in the hospital sick and unable to breath bc someone exposed US, well,- if we have enough energy to have such a reaction, we're pretty po'd that someone exposed US.
Empathy can be a survival skill.

This sounds like my dad. In 2011 I was in school for respiratory therapy. He is 84 now (was 74 then)and has smoked since approximately age 12. He became sick while visiting me. He is physician averse but I am the type that will show up on your doorstep with a bucket of water if your house is on fire. I'm also stubborn and pushy. He went to the doctor. Turns out his gall bladder was infected. Emergency surgery and while they had him up on the rack they ran 365 kinds of test. Found a spot on his lung. They said cancer, told him if he did not stop his current behavior he would be dead in 2 years. The tumor turned out to be a bleb, scar tissue from related bouts with pneumonia. That was ten years ago. He believes himself invincible, we think he is part cyborg

Same w/mine. 1st lung collapse when I was a kid young enough to have no understanding of what was going on. Decades later, an aneurysm. They said he never shld have made it to the hospital. Had surgery and full recovery. Some were lulled into believing he truly was invincible. So when the ca dx came- . And he refused to have surgery -. Then it got really bad, and suddenly they wanted to drag him from specialist to specialist until someone fixed the energizer bunny, still not comprehending that the time to do that was back when he refused surgery. The most frustrating part was all of these miracle seekers weren't here dealing with it, taking care of and trying to comfort him. When he finally died, I was a horrid person, bc I didn't wallow in self pity. I was glad - for him- that it was over. Don't misunderstand, I miss him terribly. But my grief is worth him being out of pain.
