"This Disease Outbreak News was first published on 16 May 2023 and later updated on 17 May 2023 to correct the number of cases, deaths, and the number of cases with PCR testing.
Situation at a glance
On 5 April 2023, the National IHR Focal Point for the United Kingdom informed WHO of an increase in severe myocarditis in neonates..."
The WHO article says

"Enterovirus PCR testing of all ten cases (with either blood, throat swab, nose swab, nasopharyngeal aspirate or cerebrospinal fluid samples) confirmed the presence of an enterovirus, subtyping (where available) to either coxsackie B3 or coxsackie B4."

Don't know if you've already seen this or not but here is more info about coxsackie B3 and B4.

"Coxsackie B virus belongs to the Picornavirus family and can cause a variety of diseases, including gastrointestinal illness, myocarditis, pneumonia, aseptic meningitis, encephalitis, and hepatitis."

Yes. But 15 in the past year vs 1 or 2 (which the WHO report said "may or may not be linked to the current incident") in the previous 6 years for the same region.

That some of the 15 cases are type B3 and some are type B4 seems to mean the difference in the strain of the virus is not the cause of the outbreak.

Ranting here as I have nowhere else to rant! Hubby works remotely. He had 1 mandatory fun weekend gathering. I joined him just for the night, avoiding all the workplace social crap. It was nice, and I saw a bald eagle on my way home! Anyways, hubby got Covid, and I appear to maybe have it again for the second time in a year (1 positive test and one very expired negative test). He’s symptomatic and I have mild symptoms. My job is extremely understaffed. EXTREMELY. I had to be honest about my Covid status and now they are extra screwed, and, I’m sure, pissed off. This is out of my control, but I feel really guilty. Guilty and exhausted. I have a chronic condition that I work with without complaint or sick days. I hate leaving more work for others. This Covid crap is irritating! I do take it seriously, but after 3 and 1/2 years, this is getting old. Going to rest and see if I can order some curbside groceries as our shelves are bare ((bad timing on that). Darn Covid!!!!!

I would treat it like a bad cold. Rest, fluids and old movies it is here to stay. It has made people more germ conscious, like not going places when you have a cold.

Don't feel guilty. If your workplace can't cover for you while you are legitimately sick, then they need to hire more people or reduce the workload. Drink fluids, get sleep, lots of fresh air, and feel better, soon ♡
