Ya, emphysema is a slow painful death. This CV19 can kill you in two weeks. Its spreading faster than a hen on a june bug. Be safe

Could be days in some cases! Or at least it would seem like days to the person even if they had it longer. Some people have no idea they have it and then by the time they find out or start showing symptoms, they’re dead in a few days. :(

And in my area, the vast majority of people getting it are people under 60. Lots of young people.

@HenOnAJuneBug,
There is a lot of information going around that is not confirmed by serious health institutes. I translated this article for you from Dutch. I suppose doctors don’t mind if It helps that people don’t stop their medicines they need to stay healthy. But maybe I have to remove it if there is copywrite on it.

NEWS SCORONAVIRUS AND BLOOD PRESSURE REDUCERS
Use of blood pressure lowerers for coronavirus infection
Statement by the Dutch Hypertension Association (NHV) and the Dutch Association of Internists for Vascular Medicine (NVIVG) on the use of blood pressure reducers in coronavirus infection

Reports are circulating that a certain group of blood pressure reducers, ACE inhibitors and AT1R antagonists, are dangerous or, indeed, protective in (preventing) infection with the new coronavirus (COVID-19). These reports are based on the knowledge that the coronavirus can promote SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) through the enzyme "angiotensin-converting enzyme 2" (ACE2) infection. It is suggested that the use of ACE inhibitors and AT1R antagonists could influence this process and therefore these blood pressure reducers should be replaced by alternative blood pressure reducers (1).

The Dutch Hypertension Association (NHV) and the Dutch Association of Internists for Vascular Medicine (NVIVG) note that these speculations are confusing for the patients who use these substances. ACE inhibitors and AT1R antagonists are widely used in the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart and kidney failure.

The NHV and NVIVG would like to emphasize that there is currently no solid evidence for modifications in the use of ACE inhibitors and AT1R antagonists to prevent contamination and spread of COVID-19. Also, there is no evidence that changes in use play a role in the treatment of COVID-19. The NHV and the NVIVG recommend that this treatment should be continued unchanged in patients taking ACE inhibitors and AT1R antagonists. This view is in line with statements made by international sister associations, such as the European Society of Cardiology (2), the European Society of Hypertension (3) and the International Society of Hypertension (4).

Calcium channel blockers (CCB) control hypertension, too, and don't have the same effect on ACE2 that ACE inhibitors have. CCBs are the primary hypertension treatment in east Asian countries. If I was taking an ACE inhibitor, I'd tell my doc to put me on a CCB just to be on the safe side.

Vaping appears to compromise lungs and make the teens and young adults who use vaping systems particularly vulnerable. We should expect a higher mortality for those groups in the US.

Males appear to have a higher mortality than females and individuals with Type A blood seem to be at higher risk of infection.
Naturally, I am type A-. blood donor.

Yeah it's super scary. I feel so sorry for people who vape thinking it's safer or healthier than cigs. I used to think so. Boy was I wrong. Cigs can take a lifetime to kill a person, but vaping can do it in a few months if you get the wrong stuff.

Oh by the way, @Kiki. I think I mentioned something to you about vaping in the addiction thread. I'm so sorry for recommending that to you. I had no idea.

One of the ladies from the old folks home in Washington, the first place it seemed to hit, was just on my news. She is 90 or 92....recovered.

There are a couple of 98yo and older Chinese who've also recovered. It would be interesting to find out if they had also been exposed to the Spanish Flu. If so, there could be a direction for some potentially productive research there.
