Trust me folks, it bites to self isolate but you can do it. I have been doing it for two years now all winter due to being immuno-suppressed. You cope. Find something to do and hunker down. Read a book, binge watch tv, do puzzles, etc.

I quilt, crochet, embroider, read, do art, build things. I stay busy in other words and my flock of chickens always need something. They are worse than kids that way.

My husband and I are also HAM radio operators. I told our club members on our regular NET that we do on Saturdays to cowboy up. It was time for us to do what we have been trained to do. Provide emergency communication and exchange valuable community information to emergency services.

To all of you who have served in whatever way whether it be military, health services, law enforcement, or teaching, thank you.
You are welcome. (Proud veteran, and retired federal worker.)

A bit of sanity...

Comparing the relative value of lives makes for grisly calculus, but one is forced to ask: are we missing the forest for the trees? If the measures we undertake to protect a vulnerable few end up exposing them, along with the rest of society, to even more damaging risks—was it worth the cost?

Well @CapricornFarm you sure started a doozy of a thread!
I live very close to the Washington State epicenter, and you know I’m just not seeing or feeling a lot of fear at this time. Our schools are closed for 6 weeks, our libraries have been on reduced services and will close on the 18th. We have limited our shopping trips etc but when we went to the grocery store the other day the only thing different was the bottle of sanitizer at each checkstand. Oh and they had sanitized carts ready.
As far as the argument between lost lives or a crashed economy it’ll be plenty of both. This will likely be with us for a good while yet. I’m very sad we are having to deal with this but I think getting information from reputable sources is really important to keep from being fearful.
We have a local buy nothing Facebook group, members are starting to post when they’re going to the pharmacy or wherever and offering to pick up things for people unable or too frail to do it. It’s times like this when the best comes out in most of us. The rotten ones get entirely too much attention.
Hey Sequel, I figured it was a hot topic!

I am glad that the trees are getting their foliage because toilet paper is getting mighty scarce in Southside VA. My Catalpa tree leaves should work well. As for what you have witnessed in Ireland, people long for normalcy in their daily lives. And many folks simply don't think it can happen to them or their loved ones.
Welcome to BYC, I live in VA too. Some things are scarce, but stores will restock.

Pubs were packed all over Ireland last night. So disrespectful to all of the people trying to contain this virus.

There was a clip on NJ news last night about one town putting curfew on local bars and the resultant outrage - next clip showed bars in a neighboring town with wall to wall constant body contact patrons just having a good old time. Oh to be young and immortal. :old
CNN is running coverage of 'hotspot' breakouts in North Jersey.

Virtually all pharmaceutical ingredients come from China. Hopefully, the government will start to address that risk to national security.
Yeah, has anyone checked the purity of those pills? I think not. There was already a drug that was causing cancer because a petroleum product was added to it.
