RE: weighted blankets-
For the maximum benefit a weighted blanket should ideally be up to about 10% of the users body weight. Too heavy is, as some have found out, uncomfortable. That's not to say a really heavy blanket may not bring comfort to some but generally the percentages should be of a lower balance. A 6lb to 15lb blanket for the average adult can bring comfort without feeling unduly heavy.
For my son, who is about 125 lbs, he found the weight of the blanket (even a 6lb one) spread over his body was annoying to his feet and lower legs, however the target of having weight (pressure) on the body is still beneficial if one can focus the weights on the larger muscle groups like the back, shoulders, and thighs, which is what we do. Pressure on the larger muscle groups is the target of weighted blankets or weighted items like vests, which is about soothing the body's sensory system.
A smaller weighted blanket as a lap blanket is beneficial too, both as a lap blanket or even spread over the upper body while sleeping. So, if you don't have a weighted blanket you can fold a heavier blanket and place it over the larger muscles of the body for some benefit.
Disclaimer: Not a doctor and no, weighted items don't work for everyone.
