Gas stations, and various stores just over the state line would jack their prices up too, gouging people leaving the state. Several months after things got back to normal, the states went after them. They went after quite a few people that were jacking up prices on emergency supplies, on the internet too. Don't worry, many of them will get their just desserts.

I surely hope so as we still have people who do that round here. Enough is enough.

Dr. Tara Narula on CBS This Morning, about a week ago, told how to make your own hand sanitizer. One-third cup aloe vera juice, two-thirds cup rubbing alcohol, and a drop or two of lavender essential oil. Is isopropyl alcohol the same as rubbing alcohol? I hope so, 'cuz that was all I could find. I still have plenty of hand sanitizer, both pump size and purse size, but I made a batch anyway just as a test. Seems to work just fine, and I suppose you could make your own wipes with it as well.
I found another recipe that they showed in “The Doctors” tv show half baby lotion and half alcohol. For hand sanitizer. I dont have any alcohol to try it though :he

I just want to count a blessing. Both of my children ... grandkids, actually, that we've been raising .... are home. One had moved out and come back and is back in school and now on spring break; the other, younger, is also on spring break. The older one's school has extended the break an extra week so she'll be here through the end of the month. The younger is off till at least the 22nd but that could change. Last I heard, only 2 confirmed cases in our state (MO). The blessing is, I am comforted having them both here with me. My faith is strong but being bipolar, my emotions are unstable. I would worry and feel more anxious if we were not all together. So I am more at peace now. Wash your hands and hug your loved ones. :hugs

Don't want to argue with "The Doctors," but Dr Narila stressed that to be effective it needed to be at least 60% alcohol.

I just read that in Italy if a patient tests positive they are sent to the ICU because they are considered infectious, instead of being sent to a general ward or sent home with drugs like it's normally done with flu and pneumonia, and that is why their ICUs are overflowing. Can anyone verify that?
This is NOT true. Only peoply with severe lung problems are send to hospitals.

This is what I have read: About 10 - 20% of the ones tested positive with this corona flew get respitory problems. A quarter of them (about 5%) has severe problems (pneumonia on both lungs) and need IC care.

Because there is not enough material to test*, they only test the ones who are really sick. So now they use the the figures of the ones who died to measure the increase.
Edit:* in parts of Europe

Well @CapricornFarm you sure started a doozy of a thread!
I live very close to the Washington State epicenter, and you know I’m just not seeing or feeling a lot of fear at this time. Our schools are closed for 6 weeks, our libraries have been on reduced services and will close on the 18th. We have limited our shopping trips etc but when we went to the grocery store the other day the only thing different was the bottle of sanitizer at each checkstand. Oh and they had sanitized carts ready.
As far as the argument between lost lives or a crashed economy it’ll be plenty of both. This will likely be with us for a good while yet. I’m very sad we are having to deal with this but I think getting information from reputable sources is really important to keep from being fearful.
We have a local buy nothing Facebook group, members are starting to post when they’re going to the pharmacy or wherever and offering to pick up things for people unable or too frail to do it. It’s times like this when the best comes out in most of us. The rotten ones get entirely too much attention.

Will somebody, anybody, PLEASE tell me why people are hoarding toilet paper. I can see piling up foodstuffs. I do the same thing because I don't like to shop so I do so as seldom as possible. But why toilet paper? I have seen carts piled to the brim with rolls of toilet paper, bottles of water, and paper towels but very little in the way of food. When I went to the grocery store a few days ago, the paper towels, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies were all but gone but there was plenty of foods of all kinds. I an hoping someone can explain it to me. I don't get it.

Thank you I’ll remember that whenever I find some
Washing youre hands with liquid soap or an old fashioned bar of soap for 20 seconds works too to desinfect.

Best thing you can do to avoid spreading is sending people who sneeze and cough home, to go in quarantine until they are tested or better.

If you want to minimise spreading / risks. Dont go into public transport, don't visit parties or events.

If it is located allready in you’re area/ neighbourhood. Avoid physical social contact. Keep a 2 meter distance. Pick up you’re phone, skype to have contact.

Eventually this virus spreads worldwide but its important to slow the spreading, to buy time to get organised and manufacture all the means we need to handle this problem.

Main problem is that the hospitals can’t help you anymore if you get a severe lung problem and the amount of infestations have gone sky high. Younger people get into trouble too. People do have better chances to survive with the right medical care.

Here in Europe we don't have enough means and medical staf to help everyone. Thats why Italy and Spain are in quarantine right now. It seems that other parts of Europe are following.

This is why it is so important to slow down this Corona.

P.s. stocking toilet paper is what people do because they feel the need to copy behaviour when panicking. If you think clearly you know its makes no sense. There is no shortage in stock and easy to produce more.
