I’m very happy to be Canadian! We have universal healthcare and within the next year or two, even if it’s a little longer, we’ll also have pharmacare and dental
Wait until you get older and don't qualify for procedures you need because of your age.

Soooo....does this work for all beans? I did dried beans only once and I got so sick! It was kidney beans and I did soak them put them in chilli; they never fully softened, I had a stomachache and....other problems later :(
Since then I’ve been scared of dried beans, but no problem at all with canned. What gives?

Google how to cook kidney beans, they are different from other dried beans. Most beans you can rinse, cover with water, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for a couple of hours (I do, anyway), but kidney beans require a different process because they actually contain a toxin. You have to soak them (I don't know how long), throw away the soak water, add fresh water, bring them to a boil, boil ten minutes, and then reduce heat and cook until tender (a couple of hours). @perchiegirl might know. I usually just buy canned.

Yup. Just give them enough time and don't be tempted to eat them if they haven't fully cooked.

Sometimes dried beans are really old. Those puppies are best saved for weighing down blind baked crusts. The thing is you don't know you got petrified beans until you try to cook them. But if you've given it a really good try and they won't soften, toss 'em.

So you’re saying I poisoned myself? Nice.

Maybe I’ll just stick with cans

That just doesn't happen! Where did you get such an idea?

Canadians not only live longer than Americans, they are vigorous, well-cared for and active in their communities at advanced ages. I can tell you, as I get older, and I'm 73, I would MUCH rather be a Canadian senior citizen!

I have also, because my husband has cardiac issues and I've been in Canadian emergency rooms and intensive care units, I've heard an end of life consultation between a doctor and the surviving adult kids of someone who was at the end of their life. It was dignified, warm and caring for the needs of both the patient and the survivors.

I lived in Canada for 20 years. It does happen, it's happening now. My in laws both need joint replacements. Many people wait years for procedures. Basically they were told to forget what they need done. There are not enough doctors or nurses, and hospitals are being closed on the east coast. My sister in law isn't even old, and she has been trying years to get treatment for her heart condition . She needs a defibrillator and a pacemaker. She doesn't have either. She has almost died several times. I could go on and on.
