How do you pay for it? I'm an American and I go to Mexico for dental. I will be going to Mexico for more serious medical treatment that I've been putting off if Bernie doesn't make it past the primaries.

I take moderate offense to the idea of citizens coming from other countries to take advantage of health care that more (probably many times more) than 80 million Americans cannot themselves afford.

How would that be any different from you going to Mexico? I dare say most Mexicans can’t afford the health care that you yourself are going down to get

Ibuprofen might increase risk for coronavirus infection

Human pathogenic coronaviruses (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus [SARS-CoV] and SARS-CoV-2) bind to their target cells through angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), which is expressed by epithelial cells of the lung, intestine, kidney, and blood vessels.4 The expression of ACE2 is substantially increased in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, who are treated with ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II type-I receptor blockers (ARBs).

Hypertension is also treated with ACE inhibitors and ARBs, which results in an upregulation of ACE2.5 ACE2 can also be increased by thiazolidinediones and ibuprofen. These data suggest that ACE2 expression is increased in diabetes and treatment with ACE inhibitors and ARBs increases ACE2 expression. Consequently, the increased expression of ACE2 would facilitate infection with COVID-19. We therefore hypothesise that diabetes and hypertension treatment with ACE2-stimulating drugs increases the risk of developing severe and fatal COVID-19.

We suggest that patients with cardiac diseases, hypertension, or diabetes, who are treated with ACE2-increasing drugs, are at higher risk for severe COVID-19 infection and, therefore, should be monitored for ACE2-modulating medications, such as ACE inhibitors or ARBs. ... we did not find any evidence to suggest that antihypertensive calcium channel blockers increased ACE2 expression or activity, therefore these could be a suitable alternative treatment in these patients.

It's not different, really. I haven't done anything beyond dental yet. The place where I've crossed the border, within walking distance there are about 200 dentists' offices and pharmacies. I walked into one and got a wisdom tooth pulled, but she was too busy to do my root canal, so I walked over the next block and got one. I felt a little guilty and ashamed, but the dentists want to get paid, and it didn't feel like I was taking someone else's appointment.

I'm pretty sure Mexico has national healthcare, ie. Mexican citizens of any income can get healthcare. Anyone who's lived in Mexico, feel free to correct me.

*The only difference is that in Canada, they can get treated, but come down here anyway. I shouldn't shame them though; just because you can go to the doctor doesn't mean your doctor is the best. I'm glad for anyone who is able to and willing to seek out treatment and take the time to take care of their bodies.

Somehow the subject has drifted from the current affair namely Corid 19 and into a 'bash the system' vein that is not at all becoming or helpful to anybody.

For the most part, the United States has one of the finest health care systems in the world. Countries who have gone the path of socialized medicine have long lists of people waiting for care for everything from joint replacement surgeries to cardiac care. I have yet to encounter a country whose citizens say that they are happy with the state of their medical care when they are dealing with socialized medicine.

Granted, the insurance system needs an overhaul in the worst way. Hospitals, doctors, pharmacies are forced to raise their prices in order to cover the loss generated by everything from BCBS to Medicare or Medicaid. Still, even with that exception, we have GREAT medical care here in America.

The Affordable Health Care Act gave people with low income or pre existing health conditions the ability to get insurance. There is no excuse for anyone to be without insurance in the US.

As for rich people bashing. Before anyone responds ask yourself a question. How many poor people ever started a business, hired jobless people or handed out a paycheck to their employees? Do you know any? I don't. People have money for two reasons. Either they have inherited it from their families....who worked for it. Or they themselves have worked for what they have earned.

Before gushing over Medicare for all and Socialized Medicine ask yourself this question. where is the money for this going to come from? To quote Margaret Thatcher: “The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”

I was a nurse for over 30 years before retirement. I think of all the health care professionals, doctors, nurses, lab, support personnel who are sacrificing themselves right now to answer the call of dealing with this horrible virus and feel a deep sense of pride in my chosen profession. There aren't many who would put themselves in their shoes right now, yet if you walk into an office or hospital, they will be there, tired, stressed, scared, and worried, yet willing to do their best to help you no matter what your need is.

This is America. The land of opportunity. You can be as rich or as poor as you want to be and more power to you, although there are many healthy people here in the US who are capable of being out earning a paycheck yet choose to live off the fat of the land with working people paying for their free meal ticket, free cell phone, free medical care, free housing....the list goes on.

To all of you health care providers who also own your own flocks and are members here on BYC thank you. From the bottom of my heart. You are all angels in scrubs to me.

Sorry for the rant but let's focus on how we as flock owners are dealing with the potential hardships that may be facing us thanks to the Corona Virus aka, Corid 19 and leave bashing at the curb with the rest of the trash.

On a separate subject, I have a question about the closing down of schools. Don't get me wrong, I understand the need for it and support it. It's the logistics that confuse me. The working parents of school children need care for their kids and I get that too. So arrangements have to be made. So ... what? Day care has to be provided? And then these kids are going to be back in crowded environments .... just like schols? So... what's been gained? I'm so baffled. I'm one of the fortunate ones that can stay home with my kidlets, but health-care workers and others that have to show up for work.. God bless you all. And your children. Stay safe out there, y'all.
