After sitting on these threads all of yesterday, I decided it would be prudent of me to get more dog food (we had enough for about 3 more weeks). For reference my area has pretty much been on voluntary lock down for 3 weeks now. Went to a local store that's been keeping their website up to date with inventory issues (none so far) and new shorter hours. The store was well stocked, workers were busy cleaning and restocking. We picked up our usual month's supply without issue.



From what I've read (source: yahoo, so take it as you will) in the US only about 10% of toilet paper is imported from China.



I'd recommend this for anyone of any age that can get out and do so. It's still too chilly where I am to get anything substantial going, but by May I'll be completely rolling in multiple types of vegetables. It'll get you out in the fresh air too!

Since this is a chicken forum after all, I'd think most folks on here have the space to set up a small vegetable garden. One of the best things you can do for your family in times of uncertainty.

If you want to put in a garden, get the book the Square Foot Garden. You can grow a lot of produce in a small area with a minimum of labor.

Plus on medicaid she gets the choice of several different widely accepted and intensely competitive providers. She only had one option at the law firm. That is an excellent point. I wasn't thinking about that but I actually know more than a handful of people in that same exact situation. They aren't lazy. If they make more money, they literally won't be able to afford the medications and medical care their families need to survive. As it is now, all of us taxpayers are covering the WAY overinflated costs of their healthcare, which is just another way our tax dollars are going to the rich.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was true of a huge number of people. I wonder how many people would work more and actually take less assistance if there was medicare for all?

Where can I find potatoes lol? Our groceries are totally wiped out of potatoes. Our bars and restaurants are now closed state wide except for fast food. We are in trouble.

Look like 4 or 5 states now have closed down dining in restaurant/bars - seems like take out will be allowed in most of those cases but I wonder if restaurants will be able to keep enough staff and supplies on hand to justify going that route?

I guess I should be grateful for the fact that I'll cook and eat almost anything, so even if common staples are gone I can hopefully still make well rounded meals.

Well, for our family things have taken a sudden turn. My daughter and her partner have been exposed and each now has a mandatory week away from work. My daughter is prone to bronchitis which has turned to pneumonia more than a few times. Half an hour later, I learned that my niece and her 3 kids spent Wed-Fri with my brother and his wife. The youngest child, 4 yrs old, has started feeling bad and has a sudden fever as of this evening. From what I've read 5 days is about the time frame before symptoms appear. My brother and his wife are in 60s. Scared, no. A wee bit anxious, oh yeah.

Praying for you and your family, I hope they all come though this ok.

I've lived in Vancouver. Both my husband with multiple cardiac issues and I with my chronic asthma have used BC health many times. My son who spent 10th grade in Vancouver lined up with the rest of his grade to get routine immunization in school.

I agree that you have an EXCELLENT healthcare system. Unfortunately, Americans have no idea and probably never will because they're so blinded by the we've-got-the-best-health-care-in-the-word mantra.

As Rooapalooza says, it's a fine health care system if you've got the cash and the premium insurance. It's barely adequate to adownright nightmare if you don't. And it's certainly not up to dealing with this health emergency that's about to hit us.

One thing that I think ensures great health care for Canadians is the assurance that your elected officials have Exactly. The. Same. Care. As. Every. Other. Canadian. Our elected officials would take much better care of us if they had to deal with the same conditions the rest of us do.

Oh noooo...we hate our health care!! Hate how much we have to pay for it, hate how we have to fight with the company over everything, just to seethe dr. The copays are cheap. Nothing else is. I has a dispute next week over a crown that I need... they said had to see two dentist and they needed to say it was needed. I did all of that. They still turned it down!! The only reason Americans complain about Canada health care, is because we don’t understand how it all gets paid for...you must have very high taxes??

This is my situation. I have been disabled for 21 years Due to a birth defect in my spine. I had surgery on my ankle and I was helped tremendously.I take 26 meds a day. I have seizures, etc. so, now I do much much better!! But, my drs said I still can’t work,because the stress of a regular job could cause me to relapse, plus I need the insurance. All my drs know I’m a true, hard working farmer now....carrying 50 lb bags, hay bales, etc...they are glad, but they don’t want me working off the farm. They think the farm is keeping me healthy. I’m thrilled they are allowing me to do this. I wasn’t going to lie to keep my insurance...that’s not me. I’m doing good now, if that means I need to get a job, then, so be it...but they all said no.

These people did their job. That's not scary unless you put the conspiracy theory spin on it. Conspiracy theories aren't helpful. I grew up in a household full of them and all they did was cause terror and hurt our lives. I'm a little disappointed that you can't see how harmful they can be.

At no point should it cause fear for global health organizations to run simulations for common and previously pandemic infectious agents. If it does, and it becomes widespread it will make it harder for these agencies to do their jobs. I want global health organizations planning for pandemics. Don't you?

I didn't spread anything. I didn't find that to be the case with the post in question either. Not everyone sees things the same way and I find you to be quite judgemental. Give it rest.
