After seeing the previous youtube film maybe you're in for something less scary?

Sorry! I didn't mean that to be scary. I thought what they had learned and what they could see from hindsight would be instructive and helpful.

But I enjoyed the TP video. At least it helps explain the mania for the damned stuff. I will now assume everyone who got their TP will be totally ripped when we all get out and see one another again! :lau

in the Netherlsnds:

I pay something like 170 € a month for complete health care insurance. Including needed fysio, dental care, new contact lenses or glasses every 2 years. If we need medicines or hospital care we pay an extra 380€ max a year. The people with little salary pay less than €100 a month. Its quit complicated. But it works for most people.

People who have less work or are temporarily fired because of this Corona get 70% salary for the hours they can not work.

You're paying more than that through your taxes.

You can't expect a health crisis to not lead to a discussion about our inequitable health care system.

Bingo.
Nowegian students are being called back to their country from USA and they're not mincing words.

"In accordance with the recommendations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UD), NTNU strongly recommends that all NTNU students who are outside Norway return home. This applies if you are staying in a country with poorly developed health services and infrastructure and/or collective infrastructure, for example the USA. The same applies if you do not have health insurance. "

CDC reduced the number of people permitted at gatherings to 50.
Locally the governor has made all public parking free. The two week delay in collecting unemployment has been waived, which means any company that isn't paying for their employees emergency and sick leave is having it provided by taxpayer money. The family leave has been expanded to cover people who are caring for loved ones in quarantine or who have to quarantine.

The USA government passed a bill requiring companies to give two weeks of sick leave but it's only for companies with 50-500 employees so it only covers about 20% of the population.

Several states have their court systems going after the people who are price gouging and hoarding supplies. Amazon has been shutting down accounts of people who are price gouging.

It's not different, really. I haven't done anything beyond dental yet. The place where I've crossed the border, within walking distance there are about 200 dentists' offices and pharmacies. I walked into one and got a wisdom tooth pulled, but she was too busy to do my root canal, so I walked over the next block and got one. I felt a little guilty and ashamed, but the dentists want to get paid, and it didn't feel like I was taking someone else's appointment.

I'm pretty sure Mexico has national healthcare, ie. Mexican citizens of any income can get healthcare. Anyone who's lived in Mexico, feel free to correct me.

*The only difference is that in Canada, they can get treated, but come down here anyway. I shouldn't shame them though; just because you can go to the doctor doesn't mean your doctor is the best. I'm glad for anyone who is able to and willing to seek out treatment and take the time to take care of their bodies.

as i Canadian i can agree with that, but keep in mind our health care system may be "free" (where its really not we just pay more taxes) but it's very slow, for example i had broken my nose a few years ago and it took me i want to say 15 months to even see a nose doctor and then maybe 6 more months before i could get surgery,

now don't get me wrong its great when you need it, unless its life or death your kinda waiting a while.

If you are staying at home and no one is coming/going, then you don't need to wash your hands til they bleed! The virus isn't flying around and landing on random things around your property (at least not that we know of!) :)
Stuff is still coming onto the property. People are not but we are still practicing self isolation and wiping down everything that comes through the gate. That means hand washing frequently and yes, my hands are cracked and bleeding in spite of efforts to moisturize.

Can't take the nurse out of me where I was taught to wash my hands before touching anything and after touching anything and or human or that which another human has touched. Especially when contagion is possible. I used to work OB scrub and OB neonatal. My hands literally peeled from scrubbing them. Old habits die hard.

They still do not know exactly every way this virus is being transmitted. Better safe than sick.

My sister's a former nurse. She washes her hands all of the time with Theraworx Protect. It kind of strikes me at times as being sort of a fetish, but who am I to judge. It's apparently used in hospitals and doesn't dry out the skin like chlorhexidine does (I think that's the right term). I have a bottle of it she gave to me, but I rarely use it. I like things that sting and bubble.

Oh noooo...we hate our health care!! Hate how much we have to pay for it, hate how we have to fight with the company over everything, just to seethe dr. The copays are cheap. Nothing else is. I has a dispute next week over a crown that I need... they said had to see two dentist and they needed to say it was needed. I did all of that. They still turned it down!! The only reason Americans complain about Canada health care, is because we don’t understand how it all gets paid for...you must have very high taxes??
Sales taxes on everything add up to about 20% last time I checked, in NS.

You're paying more than that through your taxes.
Yes that is true. But this taxes part is mostly payed for by the working people who can afford it. And we don't even get to see the money on bank account first. Except for freelancers and business owners.

Being less rich feels better than being richer and get confronted with poverty. I would hate it if the government lets people deal with poverty, hunger and even let them die because they had little luck in life.

I had gotten behind on this thread, 36 pages to be exact, but I’m caught up now. Some info worth reading, some not.

One thing I take away is we ALL have differing opinions, and that is okay. When I read something that I don’t agree with I may “think you’re an idiot,” but I will never speak that out loud. We have got to be kinder to one another. (I wonder why I gravitate more toward animals than people?!?) In the end, it may only be idiot helping idiot in order to survive.

I love BYC and unfortunately have to wade through some BS and bad attitude in order to reap the real benefits that bring me here.

I am thankful I live in an area (the country) where:
  • most folks are ready and willing to help each other,
  • I’m not afraid of hard work,
  • I’m not afraid of dirty work,
  • I can use a rag with soap and water not only to wash my body, but my butt as well, and
  • I have plenty of animals to take my mind off all the chaos.
I also take immunosuppressive drugs for arthritis, but am confident with good hygiene practices inside my home because of outside stuff brought in (not my normal way of doing things when out and about with my birds and horses) I will be fine. I have found I’m not allergic to dirt. Dirt does not hurt me, so I will continue my piddling, upgrading my chicken facilities (always, it never ends) and building my new ducky facilities. It is the time of year now, that demands most all my attention outside anyway: mowing, weeding, gardening, etc. Only if the rain wouldn’t stop.

Now, could I interest anyone in listening to my conspiracy theory? ;) :lau
