Is anybody concerned about long-term food shortages? Is there any evidence that might be a problem in the future? My local HEB hasn't had eggs the last 3 times I've been. This is a really dark way for me to justify getting more chickens so I'll have eggs to give away in 5-6 months...
I say doesn't hurt to get more IF you have the room.

Seriously. Every once in a while I suddenly remember that chickens are dinosaurs and gosh darn scary. They are nice to me because I give them worms, but they could someday decide to gang up on me like the tiny dinosaurs in jurassic park...
Hahaha and chase you... Peck you to death. My jersey giant roo that I got rid of was a tool. He knocked me down by kicking me and continued to come after me. He was huge.

His brother squatch is my big boy. I love him. He's called Papa Squatch right now because he's been taking care of my chicks 😁 what rooster does that?

It is a real question though. How concerned should we be about food supplies? The shelves are only empty now because people are trying to stock up to prepare in case of quarantine, right?

If we have another shortened growing season this year like last year - late spring planting due to floods and diminished harvest due to anomalous early cold and snow - it could get bad.

I want a Rooster! he's so sweet!

Our tractor supply were selling theirs off cheap because they might be closing.

This morning the folks at TSC informed me that they were expecting a corporate tele conferencing call. The rumor was that they were shutting down. Don't know if that was simply here in NJ, East coast or nation wide. Tomorrow is Amish market day. After that I will check out TSC and provide an update. Their feed supply was down to 1/3 of normal.

A little bit of political slant here, but nowhere near as bad as in the real world. My biggest problem is with those who must be RIGHT and spout dogma. For a bit I left this thread, but feel that many have much to offer here. I chose to use the 'ignore' option. This is something that I have rarely needed to do here at BYC. Check out your state and county websites for realistic updates. Our county has a very effective, frequently updated site. Bottom line is use common sense and apply the same husbandry practices to yourself and family that you would utilize to protect your flocks/animals. Stay well, and be a positive helpful force.

Oh wow, will have to do some research on our TSC.
