I've been giving them away. I'm not charging because people need them and I feel fortunate to provide them. I'd rather bless them and not get anything in return since this is a time of need.
You could ask them to save cartons and put them in the sun to sterilize.

Is anybody concerned about long-term food shortages? Is there any evidence that might be a problem in the future? My local HEB hasn't had eggs the last 3 times I've been. This is a really dark way for me to justify getting more chickens so I'll have eggs to give away in 5-6 months...

It is a real question though. How concerned should we be about food supplies? The shelves are only empty now because people are trying to stock up to prepare in case of quarantine, right?
I think food supplies are affected most by weather. Not like farm workers gather in big groups so they will get sick.

This morning the folks at TSC informed me that they were expecting a corporate tele conferencing call. The rumor was that they were shutting down. Don't know if that was simply here in NJ, East coast or nation wide. Tomorrow is Amish market day. After that I will check out TSC and provide an update. Their feed supply was down to 1/3 of normal.

A little bit of political slant here, but nowhere near as bad as in the real world. My biggest problem is with those who must be RIGHT and spout dogma. For a bit I left this thread, but feel that many have much to offer here. I chose to use the 'ignore' option. This is something that I have rarely needed to do here at BYC. Check out your state and county websites for realistic updates. Our county has a very effective, frequently updated site. Bottom line is use common sense and apply the same husbandry practices to yourself and family that you would utilize to protect your flocks/animals. Stay well, and be a positive helpful force.
Sound advice. Thanks Sour.

For me , food costs are a concern for the birds and rabbits.
This is a real concern.
It's not whether food is available it's will you be able to afford it, not because the prices have gone up but because for many households their income will have gone down. For some this will mean no income for however this lasts.
Here in Spain there are reasonable supplies coming through and on to the shelves. A few families I know have just had their income wiped out. If you have animals you have to feed them in general and that extra cost erodes what financial reserves one might have.
There are many people in this world who live payday to payday and doubly unfortunate is many of these will be self employed. I haven't seen anything here about getting any of the money the government says it's making available for this crisis to the self employed.
