I used to take hubby's leftovers when we were dating. I was thrilled, as I was in my last year of college at the time and having free food heaped on me was a godsend.
I love leftovers 😂 I always have a thing of rice, beans, and veggies ready in the fridge. I usually pressure cook them all in the instant pot then put in containers. All I gave to do is reheat the. It keeps me from eating junk.

Getting pretty ridiculous again. Who said disability payments would be revoked??
Personally I don't think anyone, or any business that wasnt directly affected by this should get anything. We have four kids so I'm thinking we're supposed to get $5g?
Why? I'm working. I know its also to stimulate the economy , and it would be nice to get some of my money I pay in back, but is it really necessary? Shouldn't there be a requirement that it only goes to those affected? It's not free money doesn't grow on trees.

The thing is are you working from home? Are you certain you are safe from this? You may need that govt check, I hope not but you may need it. Its getting real out there and fast. 2 weeks from now the healthcare system will be overwhelmed.

Anyone still planning to sew masks?

I've learned 2 things. The children's size masks work best with a 6" elastic strap. And all masks are better if they have a different fabric on each side. That way the medical personnel using them are clear about which side is safe next to their faces.

If you use clips, I've also found that it helps to set them up this way so you can sew it all the way around without having to move them before the braid is securely in place.

I'd love to hear about your results.
I have all the fabric cut for 20 masks but have been tooling around the house collecting bits and pieces of elastic. Clearly my elastic won't go far, nor am I going anywhere looking for it, and most online places are sold out.
A friend made hers with fabric ties and my local hospital does have a call out for masks- either elastic or fabric, but certainly washable. Fabric ties will withstand washing and even bleaching much better so tomorrow I plan to cut fabric for ties.
Once I have all the parts I'll get the whole assembly line going and I'll probably make ones that allow for a filter material insert.
I found a pattern for a n95 shaped mask, but haven't looked it over carefully yet. My hospital is asking for the standard surgical shaped ones.

I'm behind because I have a kiddo I'm trying to transition over to online schooling and it's been made tougher as our district did Not want to shut down to begin with and planning was, and still is, very poor. Only after orders came down from the state forcing them to, they did, however they did not heed the warnings ahead of time to get their ducks in a row.

I love out district, but ahead of time planning is not their strong point.

What's that? Oh ya rice and beans😂😂😂 DUHHHH

:lau yeah, made yellow rice and black beans lol canned beans but still.

This is the kind I made.

You and Beer both make good points. Many might think they don't need it, and true... it needs to go to those in need the most.
Buuuttt...
How does one know they don't/won't need it? No way to find this out until it might be too late...after something happens to toss one's life upside down.

The concern of many health systems getting overwhelmed is becoming palpable.

No virus in northern Ontario yet, but only 200 people have been tested so far.
Ontario schools are all closed till next school year by the sound of it.
All Ontario businesss except critical like grocery stores, gas, pharmacies.....liquor store lol etc have to close by midnight tonight.
I’m able to stay open because I work from home and it’s usually just me in the studio. I’ll be meeting all customers outside when they drop stuff off or (hopefully!) pick their things up. I wear a mask and gloves 90% of the time anyhow and bleach my work surfaces and tools regularly so not much change for me really.
Only problem is that my main supplier decided to close too so I had to scramble a bit to place an order yesterday with a different manufacturer.

In chicken news I only got three eggs out of my 13 girls today, but I was happy to be able to pick up five new “whiting true-blues”. They’re about a week old and looks like 4pullets and a cock...fingers crossed!

Another question, you know...for that friend who's thinking about an incubator...

If she doesn't want to order CXs, which she has lots of experience with, but rather wants to use the excess roos for meat from home hatching, what is a good breed or cross she might find around her location?
What would be a good food or raising protocol for her own heritage breed/hybrid mix she's contemplating? She's assuming it would be different than for frankenbirds.
^^^ Reposting the above question in case it got lost on the puppy and food melee.

My friend also wants to know anyone's thoughts on bringing in Speckled Sussex or Buff Orpington to beef up bodies since they are heavy breeds.
She likes BOs but she loves SSs. 😍
