Has anyone had issues with their chickens being stolen for eggs or meat? I've become super paranoid about this. I know eggs are in short supply -- I've had a lot of requests for them. Just curious what is going on and geographically where.
I have heard of people stealing eggs and or chickens. I would gladly give eggs to anyone who is hungry in my area.

jobs are essential
Of course, but that does not mean you should disregard science and common sense, state and local orders to stay at home right now. This thing is dangerous, you can pass it along for two weeks before you even know you have it. It is spreading faster than a hen on a june bug.

My neighbors know better. Heck predators give our place a wide berth.

Caveat: I've never been to the Big Easy before, but... in some areas corner stores are the only type of "grocery" store available. Large parts of the South and the Appalachians especially are considered food deserts, where residents have no easy access to grocery stores. My guess is this is to make sure that those stores can stay open and continue to serve in that capacity, even if they aren't suitable substitutes to start.

I am an actual resident of the Big Easy, not someone who lives close to the city and refers to themselves as a NOLA person, so thank you for pointing out, what to us is the obvious. Some people here do not have cars and have to rely on public transit. For those people a short trip for milk or TP becomes a large headache without the corner grocery. Thank you, a NOLA Girl

Check out “roll 20” and the chat aspect can be handled through a program called “discord” that’s how we do our weekly sessions remotely.

Our D&D group lost DH and I to moving back to the farm first (from a city), then about 1 year later the DM moved to a different slightly less remote island. Shortly thereafter he started looking into ways to play with everyone living in different cities and on different islands. We have been using it for about a year now.

Roll20 REALLY needs to improve their user interface. Figuring this out is a mess. D:
I've got it working but it took two hours.

My fence has always had a padlock on it but nobody here is anywhere near that desperate. Quite the opposite, most folks are apathetic of me butchering chickens and dislike it at best. Suburban folks aren't exactly inclined to offing their own animals for food. Similarly while most don't care and a few are happy i keep egg chickens, some are grossed out by eggs that aren't white and in the grocery store.

Funny, some are grossed out by eggs that aren’t brown lol funny how some will only eat certain color eggs!! I even heard of one case where someone asked them if the green eggs were moldy. :lau 🤦‍♀️ actually I think they were like THE EGGS ARE MOLDY!! Rather than asking :lau 🤦‍♀️

Bartering- On my other farm I used to barter all the time. I raised heritage turkeys and found they were great for bartering to get local beef and pork.
After a day at the farmer's market, we vendors would barter with each other for the items we wanted or needed, and sometimes neighboring farms would barter with me for services. Delivering babies was my specialty and I'd often get 2:00 am calls for help. Once on the
other side of a difficult delivery with healthy babies, the owners would offer me a nice array of farm help or work as payment.
My current farm is much smaller and I don't have nearly as much to barter with, but my neighbors and I do it a little bit.

Thieves- I've shut the gate to my farm but haven't locked it just yet. Might or might not, but I have deliveries coming and my delivery guys know that it is ok to open the gate to come up the driveway if it isn't locked. I'm more worried about a few of the families that live close enough to hear my rooster crowing and know that I have birds. Several of those families have questionable family members who have been know to do stupid things. Like invading a neighbor's land for stuff. Other neighbors have turned their noses up at "farm" eggs too so I don't think I need to worry about them. Not yet anyway.
My place is fenced all around, but it's easy to climb or snip the fence. I really miss my guard dog right now but old age got him a few years back.

Thankfully I have cattle and sheep farms all around me and plenty of other chicken keepers in the area. I'm hoping most will seek out chicks or bunnies and if someone is desperate enough to steal....they go after the oodles of sheep instead.
Maybe not nice for the sheep farms, but this mom needs her chickens.

Reminder, don't cross picket lines. Even digital ones matter. These people aren't getting provided with hand sanitizer, gloves, or paid sick leave unless they can get a positive corona test (despite testing being limited) even if they're advised to stay home by a doctor or exhibit all corona symptoms. Their paid sick leave (which requires a positive test) only is in place until mid-april, well before most of the USA has hit its corona virus peak. And they are handling your food without any sanitation, PPE, or ability to pay their bills if they stay home while sick.
