I used to do a lot of 4-wheeling trails.....I pulled many back upright.
I drove an 84 1/2 ton Cheverolet Silverado. Never once did I have an issue with that truck.

I think some cars differ in quality. But it appears that trucks don't fall into that category. I think all three big names put out really tough trucks, I don't think one is better than the other. I'm on my 3rd Chevy pickup, the other 2 were sold with high mileage.

You really need to try each saddle on your horse for fit! If it pinches somewhere, that's just no good. I think it's easier to find a comfortable saddle for me, than for my horses, who of course aren't all built the same.

Have you ever sat on a McClellen saddle? Awful! Some of the Wintecs are nice, and I loved my Passier. Dressage saddles are very nice for general riding, not as much for jumping.

I grew up on Ford's. My dad and grandfather both had Broncos. My mom had a 1969 Mach 1 when my brother was a baby.

When I was little my dad had a 196_ Corvair.

I have an "Anky" dressage saddle The old type Anky.
However my gf had the saddle and
I didnt know but saw it and she said I could try it, So I get out to the barn and saddle up my horse with her saddle and realize I forgot the stirrups. I got on any way. That was it. Love!

You tried other types of saddle! That’s great! Ive been looking and I love the look of a dressage saddle, it just screams comfort to me, but I don’t want to look like some poser lol, and I’m a little shy to ask at the store since I’m in no way a dressage rider.
Dh grew up with the western saddles so that’s what I bought at first but I personally don’t find them comfortable and they’re all too long for my horses, pinching at the shoulder and digging at the hip. I picked up two older ap English and I love them, and they fit much better too.
McClellans look comfy too, and those Aussie stock saddles, I’ve been creeping amazon and eBay for tack lmao

I have gotten all my saddles on Ebay (used like new) Had great luck. Those sales people in a saddle shop should help you with brand and size. I love the deep seat saddles.. However you really have to watch size with them and will need size
or 2 bigger. Make sure sitting in the saddle you can put a hand infront of and behind you. Or maybe a bit more. Don't buy one too small. Including western saddles, I find I am most secure in a dressage saddle.

The tack shops do help you with saddle fit, and most will let you take a saddle home to try the fit on your horse too.
Then there's always having a custom saddle made... $$$ but would be nice.

Wow! Quite some story! I like your attitude with showing. True ribbons are not worth risking health. Your parents were trainers? How awesome! Sidesaddle??? I saw it once at a show years ago. Not since then.

I've done the rounds with saddles. I started with a dressage saddle in 1986. For various reasons I tried more different types. I went back to the dressage saddle. My idea of comfort!

Oh. I rode a close contact hunter-jumper saddle. Fit like a glove. I did very little competition, never actually jumped, but rode lots of trails... arroyos and such in NW NM. It was pure comfort, for my half-Arab and for me! She could do an extended trot that would put her miles ahead of our companions who were galloping. They'd be lathered and blowing and I'd have to circle her so they could catch up, and she'd hardly be breaking a sweat. Little she was, only 14-3 hh, a bright bay with just one little half sock, off hind, but that girl could move! Oh, my heart!

My daughter rides and shows in a voltaire - we started with the cheaper Pessoa. But she won year end high point in it her first year. But then we decided to chill and enjoy the shows versus chase points. She went to pony finals and that was crazy but Lexington is beautiful and worth seeing!

I prefer western saddles but they are like a pair of jeans and you can try 20 before you find one you like much less that fits your horse too. I sat in -not on a horse- a saddle made for riding a mule and it was quite comfy made by Amish in Tennessee if I remember correctly.

Anyway saddles are very personal. I can’t really ride in English I don’t feel safe and they jack your legs up high. I like my legs a little longer I feel more stable. I have seen the dressage and thought it would be comfy. A saddle fitter is a good idea and really helpful if your trying to use the same saddle on multiple horses.then you can generally just change or add to the saddle pads to make it work. Most places will let you take it on trial for a week or so. Just keep in mind if you break it or scratch it with your boot or belt buckle.....which we did or anything else you bought it

All this talk of horses is making me excited to get the horses home from the barn-I sure wish my old Dan was here and my old saddle!
