I've lost two adult chickens and three chicks in 5 years.

The three chicks were all to predators (snakes)... The two adults one had a reproductive issue that would never be fixed and HeiHei got beat up by Squatch. Nothing I could've done.

I believe that we all deal with losses no matter how good you are with your flock. Animals are just like people, they can get sick. They also cannot talk and there really isn't a lot you can do when a bird is sick. I mean there's medications and such, but not everything can be cured by a medication.
Three birds in two months! I know! Doesn't make things any easier! Nice try!:hit

I don't know about everybody else, but I find it absolutely terrifying - definitely understandable, but still terrifying - that we're grateful to see death numbers under 500. I may never leave the house again.

Yeah. ... definitely apprehensive about getting back out there. My kids are, too. A friend who lives about half an hour away wanted to come "buy eggs and visit a while" recently. I ran it by the family because we haven't had anyone here since mid-March, and both kids growled/groaned. I politely told her I'm only selling on a drive-through basis. She didn't come. I just don't see what will be different in two weeks that makes it any safer.

I understand! My kids want to go see their Dad, but he drives a commuter bus into and out of two major cities near us. They don't dare (their decision, not mine!) Worse, he doesn't really understand why. After all, he drives in and out of the "hot" areas every day and he's "not sick," so they have "nothing to worry about." He wears a mask & gloves when he goes out, but the kids can expose themselves? I don't think so, and luckily, neither do the kids!
