Don't know about more, but we've been this way for many years now. Some stems from kiddo's allergies and having to use safe cleaners and such, the rest came from learning about our own carbon footprint and such.

I like the silicone sponges too, though it's hard to get them into tight corners and small spaces. I love the fact that I can put them through the dishwasher. I've never liked using sponges for very long and have always felt they were little bacteria breeding beds. Even after putting them through the washing, machine repeatedly.

Actually have 2 or 3 extra silicone sponges around and use them for sewing and quilting to sweep up threads and fuzz. They excel as hair and fuzz brushes.
I use hand-knit cotton cloths - the ones you see free patterns for everywhere. I don't do "idle" well, so I knit them to keep my hands busy. They wash and wash and wash and scrub pretty much everything, so I have a ton of them. My family likes them, too, so some get them for Christmas. I've made so many of the little buggers that I think I could knit them in my sleep!
I despise standard sponges (besides, Crazy Dog eats them,) but I haven't tried the silicon ones, yet. I guess they'll be on my list ... if I ever get brave enough to go to a grocery store again ...

It's funny. I knit and crochet and will do it while watching TV, but the rags are something I've never done. (Have a gazillion scarves, gators, stoles, and cowls though!)

I figured they would start to smell just like the sponges do so was never inspired to try. Do they Not get icky after a day like sponges do?

I think you have to constantly wash them after use. Like more than a day I bet they start to stink.

Since I'm usually doing dishes & counters with them. I don't generally use them until they stink, just until I need them for the floor or something particularly greasy ... and at our house, that's no more than a day, maybe not even that long. Between uses, they get fully soaped, rinsed and hung over the faucet to dry. If they're still there in the morning, they're dry enough to toss in the hamper. These days, I can go through a couple every day, but they're holding up beautifully, despite the constant use and washing. My only complaint has nothing to do with the cloths and everything to do with my "dishwashers." DD & DS haven't figured out that when you dry a knife, you have to be careful not to slit the yarn. Once it's cut, it unravels ... ARRRGGGHHH!

Hmmm.... knives aside, I might have to try making a few. I'm constantly mopping up some kind of mess around here! Thank goodness I ripped out what carpeting was here and replaced with laminate.
Carpets with kids, pets, or farms is just more work for Mom.

They are drying it with the sharp side to them 😱

Anyone else becoming more eco friendly in their homes. We have become more aware of what we are using like those nasty dish sponges that start to stink (no we don’t have a dishwasher unless you include the people with two hands in this house). We bought silicone sponges, I’m already loving them. We have been using way less toilet paper maybe because for a month we thought we would never see any again.

No sponges here. I use white dish cloths or wash rags, whatever you call them, so they can go through the washing machine with bleach. I got rid of all the pretty, fancy dish towels too, everything is white like you would see in a restaurant so it can be bleached. I hate the smell of a mildewy dish towel, and MO has such high humidity this is a smell I battle all the time. Can't hang towels out on the clothesline to dry in the sunshine bc of the humidity, so bleach is the only way to kill that funk.

I drip dry my dishes. I don’t wipe them down 😂 Saves laundry that way. Anything that stops laundry is my go to lol

We have a dishwasher. Sadly it had an "unfortunate incident" early on that I didn't know about and it doesn't dry the dishes properly, so the kids have to hand dry them. Or rather they are supposed to. The unfortunate incident involved them using dish soap instead of a dishwasher pod one night when DH and I were out at a restaurant celebrating an anniversary and MIL told them it would work just as well. It blew the seal. 🙄 I'll get a new one some day. As soon as they move out, probably. :lau

They must’ve put way too much 😂 I did that before when I lived with my parents and suds came out all over the kitchen floor. The dogs had a blast
