How are things in your area? Everything good with you?
slow going, is the easy answer.

Friday I was inspecting the truck after my Better-half and our 23y/o returned from the quick run down to button up our Galveston house Tuesday last week.... discovered the rear axle seal gave up. Original equipment gave up at 200K+ and basically 20 years of solid service. I'm the 3rd owner. But the frustration is that I was hamstrung by the weather and other family stuff getting in the way.

this link shows what I'm dealing with and the process of the job in photo step by step from a guy and a Gal's perspective.

The rain from the last 48 hours is over 6 inches.

The fun of carpel tunnel in both hands also makes for a "delay of game" for me as well.

today while elbow deep in gearlube, a pair of official census workers stopped by to ask about some neighbors houses. So I gave them the truthful answers as the data they needed was cliche at this point...." That house there (they point) Do you know if they have lived there as of this April the 1st?"
I said, oh sure.
She replied oh great as the gps data we have been given was iffy can we ask about another address nearby?
Me: sure.

These ladies were smart and refreshingly pleasant to interact with; they were also covid smart as well! I gave them some web advice for all the future sites they have to find and solve for the region they are covering.

Kiddos are going to have a "benchmark" test this Friday to allow the district to assess where everyone is currently since the March shutdown and transition to everyone in home-school for the rest of last year. I get to re-read that email I got today about how we are doing the test on Friday.

I read a few articles and want to share one here and I'd like to get @Nabiki 's perspective on it as she has been engulfed in the Nor-Cal fires all along.......

and to balance things out here is a story on its "opposite" that i read before the previous one listed above:

This weekend I hope it'll be dry enough to get some good pics of the hatchlings now that they are at 12+ weeks old..... want to figure out their sexes; and :fl I hope we dont loose any more chickies.... I have had enough of death and dieing in 2020(Dogs, family and friends family, chickens and chickies). The Brown egg, the chocolate, and three salt-n-peppa silkies are all that remain from the "tagteam" hatchout of 14.

My annual physical is later this month too. So I get to do labs in, ummm 2 weeks I think. Its been 6 months since I have stepped foot inside any VA bldg. Its been 5 months since the last solo and group counseling sessions at the VA too.

I am definitely NOT feeling stir-crazy, especially after seeing the neighbors have their PAH-tees last week with no sense of safety.... I believe I posted here about those events?

(heavy, deep, & peaceful sigh)

I am "surviving." I keep trying to "shift up" into "Thriving;" alas have not gotten the *RPMs up high enough to get into *that gear*; be it mentally, physically, or even metaphysically speaking in 6-7 months at this point.

Thanks for asking @FortCluck and on that note, I'll hand the "Romper Room Mirror" back to you, and say, "Your turn. How are things in your area? Everything good with you?" :hugs

That article had a lot of interesting points that I do agree with, and some that I don't. I do agree that we have not had enough controlled burns. There are ecosystems here in CA that require fire to thrive. The great redwoods that came so close to burning this time around are an example of that. They require either fire or flood to clear enough undergrowth to reproduce.

On the other hand, we had five years of drought, followed by two years of good rain, followed by the current drought. The two years we had of good rain caused a lot of new growth that dried out and became ideal fire fuel during the dry months and even more so now that we're back in drought again. The worse than usual fires that we've been dealing with for the last three years are worse, in my opinion (and I'm not an expert, so I could be completely off base here) because of the extra abundance in fuel and the hotter, drier weather we now have due to climate change.

Controlled burns would reduce the extra fuel that is feeding these fires, but we also need to curb our carbon output worldwide to reduce the effects of climate change so our undergrowth doesn't dry into the tinder that can cause hundreds of fires when a dry lightning storm comes along.

All I know for sure is, I'm tired of being on fire and breathing smoke and ash. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular, but if I open a door or a window, my air purifier immediately turns red and cycling air like mad to improve the air quality back to breathable levels.

Wow. I wrote a novel. Sorry.

Nothing new here really. Just staying busy and reading my heaping pile of books I got from the library.

Thanks for sharing those articles. I have actually shared the water article with my father. He and I have been discussing/debating the origin of water for decades. As for the controlled burns, I know that's still up for debate in a lot of circles, but I've long been a proponent of it. Mother Nature and the natives of many areas, not just ours, have used the method forever. It's only recently that "modern" civilization messed with the order of things. There's got to be a happy medium in there, somewhere!

So, hows-about-we-had-you the "Romper Room Mirror" and ask you the same questions? "Wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean, eh?" (Said in Monty Python accent & Style... Of course)
