The sturgis rally results came back pretty grim.

The study itself the report is based on seems legit. :T

I am Sooooooo NOT surprised by the facts raising to the surface. I modified & started using this phrase somewhere in April, "Darwin award *Contenders*" that Sturgis event is a simple generalization of exactly why that phrase fits around their necks.

/Facepalm I wonder what percentage of them will also end up being labeled as a "long hauler" too!

Well, what's it called when the stallion travels to the breeding farms where the mares reside? He's still an intact boy doing his business because some breeds do not recognize AI.

Though to be fair, the farms where horse owners keep breeding stallions are commonly called stud farms vs where as the mares and foals generally reside on breeding farms.
And farms where both reside it is often said "stallion 'So and So' is standing stud at farm XYZ."
It also depends on the animal. "Stud" can used to label animals other than horses, or more correctly, stallions. So :tongue

Been doing it for years, but events of late have me focusing more on it because since moving it's been easier to find what have needed and both my garden and livestock spaces are smaller than they were.

I was just about to post the same reports. It's even on faux news...wonder if anyone of that persuasion will pay attention.
The information itself is mind numbing...less than 500,000 people attended and it's responsible for over 250,000 cases so far and some deaths already. Nearly 20% of all of August's cases.
There are just no words...
I'll see your "no words" and ante up 3 more words, "Darwin award contenders."

I am literally in park on the highway right now and have been for like 20-30 minutes :lau not going anywhere anytime soon. :barnie

Been there. Done that. Countless times all across the nation. Be it onna motorcycle, in a car or pickup or when I drive 18 wheelers OTR. Most of them occured on the eastern 1/2 of the CON-US.

I don't know how it is elsewhere, but here in Maryland, we have to take the mares to the stallions, not vice versa. It's partly beasue most studs have specially designed breeding stalls to keep their boys safe from the flailing hooves and teeth of temperamental, in-season mares. Mostly, though, it's because the stallions are simply too valuable to risk moving them around alot.
On a brighter note, as a kid, we visited Sagamore Farms, and I met Kauaii King, a son of Native Dancer. I still have the horseshoe his groom gave me! Northern Dancer, another Native Dancer son, retired here to Cecil County. My sister was visiting Windfields, when a groom asked if she wanted to see "The Dance." She figured he'd just take her to the paddock or let her hang over the stall door, but they brought the Old Man right out for her. As old and sway-backed as he was, he was still a showman, and pranced and shook his head as if showing off for a pretty young mare. For a Maryland girl raised on horse racing, it was the highlight of her world!
I LOVE my Maryland! i don't ever want to live anywhere else!
I think stud travel can be regional and discipline dependent. Race horses? yeah...those boys stay home. In other disciplines the mares can often hold as high of values by virtue of their achievements, so not strange for a stud out of New York to travel down south to visit said mare for breeding. :D

What a great memory to visit the farms and get a chance to meet royalty. And MD is a beautiful state!

In 'olden days' before shipped semen was commonly used, some stallions did travel, but the vast majority of the time, the mares made the trip. safer for all concerned!
Now only the Jockey Club insists on 'in person' mating, so many others are done with shipped semen, or frozen semen, the most difficult.
This has greatly expanded stallion choices for mare owners, a very big deal.

Makes it that much more important that proper punctuation is followed when old arthritic Uncle Jack is on his horse and needs help...

It’s terrible! I felt bad for the truckers and loggers we saw. Probably on a schedule. And probably were there for hours. But even without traffic, it’s just getting way too congested around here. Everybody is moving to the south shore (my areas south of Boston) and I’m like nooo go away 😂🤣🙈 not really but it’s like always slightly congested now even times that used to not be. There’s just too many cars on the road.

When we moved to So-Cal from SOuthern Michigan I learned the concept of travel time was the correct way to convey where you were going.

Case in point if we were going to Laguna Beach or (for perspective) all the way to San Diego from Costa Mesa, we never spoke as to how many miles the drive was for a time reference..... It was always a 2+ hour drive even though the route was something like 80-90 miles.

Now here in the DFW area. Both methods are valid with a very large font asterisk!
It's now a fact that was a theory back in the 70's in So-Cal (where the term Moving parkinglot seems of been coined); if a major accident occured in the morning "rush hour traffic" then the delay will domino all the way out till after sunset on weekdays or holidays.

That is now a proven fact is many major metro areas where gridlock can easily happen.

It's funny like that for me.

Ugh. And Sturgis is in a state with a high number of mostly Lakota reservations. Because Native people (and BIPOC communities more generally) are more susceptible to COVID-19, I wonder how many Indigenous people were infected as a result of Sturgis attendees who passed through their reservations.
