Instead of travelling anywhere we are going to do Thanksgiving, Christmas, St. Stephen's, and New Years here, just me and my landlord (I rent part of her house). I'm doing the cooking. :D 👍 I've already bought the turkey, spiral ham, and corned beef. Haven't decided on the New Year's menu yet.
New Years Eve is always an assortment of shrimp and chicken nibbles at our house - everybody has their favorites, so we make up a bunch and just snack all night. New Years' Day is ham, cornbread and black-eyed peas. Always. The reasoning is fun. Shrimp swim and chickens scratch backwards (remembering the past year) while a pig roots forward into the new one. Black eyed peas and cornbread are just required!

I practice Zen daily, just me, a cushion and a blank wall. Suggesting something to someone should include disclosure that you practice a modified version and what you do is not what is the normal practice. It’s not just the definition.
Y'know, technically, there is no catch-all technique for "Finding Zen." The very nature of the beast is that everyone's stressors and reliefs are different, so everyone needs to find what works for them. The individual variations are a "given." If we had to qualify every single one of them, there would be a million different books and videos on "How to Effectively Meditate."

Waymaninit. There ARE a million different books and videos on how to effectively meditate ...

Never mind ...

;)

Reading through the last few pages here, I just had the strangest thought.
With the skyrocketing cases and deaths combined with the promise of likely at least 3 effective vaccines coming in the next year - I just thought how weird it would be if I or anyone would be the last person to die from Covid-19.
Ya'll know I'm not normal. So just ignore me.
Like the Country song says ... "There's a Last Time for Everything ..."

Just found out one of our sons has it. Tested.. positive. He's 46. His Father and Mother in law live..sort of lives with them. When they built their home, they built an apt for them to live in. Pretty nice. They come over to the family often. I just talked with him as I started this post. He has several kids getting sick too! They have 8 kids. Two of the older ones work out in the public. They think they brought it in. The Mother in law was sick first, she's going to get tested. Good grief, I just did zoom with them all on Sunday. 😞 Prayers they don't get too sick.
Prayers winging their way to you. It's not much fun, but it's survivable. In addition to doctor's meds and advice, these are the things that have helped my family the most:
  • Mucinex (guaifenesin,) Keeping the mucus thin helped ease breathing issues a LOT!
  • Tylenol (acetaminophen) not Ibuprofen or naproxen.
  • Warm, herbal teas - the virus can't deal well with the heat and the digestive tract kills it.
  • Sleep on their stomach or sides to minimize pressure on the lungs
  • Invest in a couple of temple-touch thermometers and oxygen meters. You can get the medical grade ones like your doctor uses, but our Urgent Care recommended the ones designed for sports and aviation. They seem to work just as well at a serious fraction of the price. Amazon delivered both the next day for under $20.
  • and hydrate, Hydrate, HYDRATE! Keep those liquids going!

I’m tired of people who can’t be bothered to be careful. My MIL actually yelled at my husband when he told her we were staying home. She wants to “live her life” and always makes Thanksgiving...in a tiny house with too many people who also are anti maskers. There will be at least 15 people, and by tiny I mean one room for all. The family is actually calling us “sheepuls” because we abide by state recommendations. Our niece just had a birthday party on Halloween with 30 people, which we didn’t attend. Call me selfish but I don’t wish to die alone. My sweet chickens would miss me, no one could love them as much as I do!

Since you can't convince them, anyway, you might as well have some fun with it! Easy DIY sheepul masks for your Zoom Thanksgiving!

Thank you! I'm going to screenshot this and send it to them. Soo glad that you are doing well!!

I wouldn't be counting on these vaccines fixing anything.
Covid will still be here next year and probably the year after.
Well, it may very well be that a ...covid shot...will be needed yearly, like the flu shot. Don't know yet.

I'm so sorry to hear this, I sure hope they all recover quickly.

My family caught the virus through a health care worker taking care of my best friend's MIL. The 18 year old "cut back" on her partying, but didn't safeguard. She put her charge in the hospital and shared the virus via a shared laundry/bathroom. I spent one anally cautious afternoon out with my bestie - doing all the "safe" things - and here we are. DS and I have decided to order "I Survived," tee shirts. We may have to order one for DD, too, simply for managing to stay clear (so far!)

Oh - and no Big Thanksgiving for our family, either - and ours is usually HUGE - an all day open house at my sister's dairy farm. There is one happy side benefit, though. Sis always does the turkey, so I haven't had that amazing smell at my house for years. I am actually looking forward to waking up to the smell of roasting turkey, this year!
That is quite a tale! You have been in a lot of thoughts and prayers lately!
