I
my mom got the vaccine.

also scientists think it could be blood types thats causing death from covid, if not old age or heath issuses
I just wanted to respectfully point out that showing some influence is different than causing. Having said that I have been working with Covid patients for a year and haven't had more than a few sniffles and I'm O+.

Yes it is sad. Every life lost to this virus is a tragedy, especially when so many could have been prevented. Mask up. Wash hands. Keep your distance. Contain your cough. And get vaccinated!

My SIL and BIL mocked my DH and me today, saying we are willing to be "guinea pigs" for the vaccine. That's just silly and ignorant. The vaccine was tested on tens of thousands of people before it was approved for general use. THOSE brave people were the "guinea pigs!" And we should regard them as heroes. The vaccines are safe and over 90% effective. They will stop the spread, save lives and get us back to normal! Just Do It!

Good for you for standing up for yourself. You aren't a guinea pig, we've already been through that phase.

My parents got their first round a few weeks ago. I know and more vaccinated people by the day. I am getting hopeful, after a year in the dark. Things are finally looking up :wee

I believe we need to look at how risk adverse we are personally and respect that others may have honest but different opinions. ( That could apply to a LOT of areas today. )
It may be that THOSE people aren't trying to make you sick or turn every one into serfs, they just have a different world view.

I'm in covid units pretty often since it started (not in patient rooms) when I tell people they're like nope but the way I see it is full PPE negative pressure rooms i feel safer on a covid floor than in the general public. We know those patients are C+ i dont know who that is behind me in line spitting all over as they laugh while planted to thier phone

Side note: I do believe now looking back i may have had it in March of last year. I was feeling run down not sick sick just after mardi gras for no apparent reason

Hope everyone and loved ones have faired well through this last crazy scary year.
I got my first covid vaccine yesterday and was so thrilled. Never been so happy to get a shot.
For those having mixed feelings about the vaccine, I understand and had the same concerns. Wasn't going to get a vac any time soon.
What changed my mind was my sister inlaws dad. He is 92 and highly diabetic. He had his first vac and some days later got covid. He survived! He did go to the hospital and was there for 2 weeks. Mostly because of age and minor problems. The doctors said if he hadn't had that first vaccine he would not have lived.
Last I heard no one has died from covid if they had even just the first vaccine. Think about it. Scientific facts or opinion. One will save your life the other may kill you!

Just a technical note; You can be allergic to ANYTHING. I had to tell an MD ( OK a resident) that you CAN be allergic to Benadryl, even though it is what we give most people for an allergic reaction. I read an report in nursing school about people who were allergic to steel, and would have a reaction to the needle when getting a shot. A friend would react to any synthetic material she wore. ( We used her to test fabrics. 🤫)
Also it is usually the second exposure to a substance which creates the allergic reaction. The body doesn't recognize it the first time but the second time it's 'ready'. If it is a true danger and the immune system fights it off, that is a success. When the body misinterpets the pathogen, or overreacts to the danger we have a problem.
The most dangerous it Anaphylaxis; rash, swelling around the face and neck (airway). This is why you have to wait around after the shot.
I wonder sometimes where we would be if the first person to get penicillin was allergic to it.
