We had an earthquake here once. It was in either 2009 or 2008. Dont really remember. My roommate at the time felt it but I was fast asleep. I didnt notice it at all.
I live in upstate NY, we don't have earthquakes...
But several yrs ago less than ten , working on a '78 Pontiac Catalina water pump elbows on car felt like it shook, stood up looked around thinking maybe one of our kids were outside and shook it, nope didn't see anyone, dropped back down to continue and DW comes outside "did you feel that!"
Talk about cold chills, ghost walked over my grave, "feel what!!!?"
Guess we had a small quake and could be felt through the state.

Guess I'm a bit more 'senior' than that! I do remember when cars first had seatbelts as a new thing! And we had cars without power brakes or power steering, but sadly not with manual transmissions. I learned to drive manual when living on Okinawa, a very hilly island, narrow roads, scary driving conditions generally. Driving in the USA is so relaxing!
There have been a couple of small quakes felt here, not originating nearby.
Felt several small quakes living on Okinawa, fortunately nothing big. And one typhoon. One is enough!

In the interest of getting back to the Covid discussion: I had a root canal yesterday. They charged me a PPE fee so I figured theyd be all dolled up with face shields and the like. Nope! All they had on were disposable masks. And they were IN MY MOUTH. I want my 35 dollar PPE charge back.:rant
I posted something to this back months ago. According to our dentist our kids were the first they seen after covid. And they charged extra for PPE, think it was $9.
Where I work mentioned it to a truck driver, he says "didn't they where PPE before?"
didn't think about it, they just wore paper masks and gloves, and yeah I'm pretty sure they did before, maybe for the extra hand sanitizer?
He says I hope they sanitized their hands before....

I was lucky when I first started driving standard.
Bought a manual transmission '84 Subaru wagon. They had a 'hill holder', push the brake while clutch is in and could let off brake pedal while paying attention to clutch and gas pedal, held you there brake on itself...!
I'm not very fond of foreign vehicles and haven't owned any in many yrs but I loved those '80s early '90s Subaru's, owned dozens, including my fav vehicle ever and I've had some classics, fav all time was a '84 Subaru Brat.

You lived in Okinawa??!! :bow

Two years on Okinawa, when DH was in the army. Terrific experience, travelled some while there, and delighted to come back to the USA!
The 80's Subarus were too small for DH to fit in comfortably, but we now have our second Forester, a 2016, and love it!
Over there, long ago, we had an awful little Datsun, never broke down, but a box on wheels, complete with cockroaches.
We snorkeled in the coral reefs, wonderful!

I lived there for a couple of years also in the mid 90's. I loved being there and taking the kids to all the really cool parks they have. I was there when the 3 marines kidnapped and raped a young girl. That was a scary time to go through.

We wanted to go to Japan for our honeymoon but stupid Covid and we are still waiting to take our honeymoon :rant

Nomimasen des, and I don't even remember how to spell it!
We were there in the early 70's, during reversion, and lived in army base housing. And learned very little Japanese, sadly. A very different time and place!
Mary
Nomimasen desu ka? Youre not a drinker? :lau I think what you wanted to say is:
Nihongo o hanashimasen
"I dont speak Japanese"
I took Japanese for 3 years and I'm still not fluent. Its a tough language if youre not fully immersed. Luckily we have google translate now and most things in japan have writing in romaji (english characters) or english translations. Plus a lot of people in Japan speak english. Although you could get asked if you could teach someone english (classic pick up line). Id love to hear more of your stories! Japan is so beautiful
