I've been so frustrated over the differences given between mRNA vaccines and vector based vaccines. To me, the "new" part is using people's cells to make just the spike proteins. I couldn't see any important difference between using a lipid layer to get the instructions into peoples cells for that to happen and using a viral vector to do it.
So describing how mRNA uses our cell machinery to make the spike protein and the describing how the viral vector is used to get "genetic material" into the cell.... seemed to me to be a bait and switch.
It still seems like a bait and switch to me, but not the same way I thought. I thought the "genetic material" was exactly the same in each. It isn't. I think it ends up making the exact same spike protein (but will look that back up, if I can, I think it was from the insanely long piece in the Atlantic about a year ago), but it makes it more differently than I realized. My apologies to grammar gurus for "more differently."
