Corralitos CA
Hi! We are new BYC readers as well as chicken moms in Corralitos CA near Santa Cruz. After moving to the country, we got 6 chicks a month ago. 3 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Americaunas or "Easter-eggers". Got a coop, which is already too small, so now building a run with a top. (me, 1 spouse, 3 orps, 3 Americaunas, 2 Swedish Vallhunds, a Mini Cooper and a Prius)

Is there a list someplace of what food scraps ARE safe for chickens to eat? We don't want to give them any dangerous treats. So far, we gave them small bits of raw veggies, lettuce, small cantaloupe half, strawberry tops with hulls, cut up apples.:D

. I believe there is a treat list in the "Feeding and Watering your flock" section

Greetings from Kansas, Gailgroves, and

! Happy you joined us. There is a saying I've read on BYC that says '"if it won't eat chickens, chickens will eat it." Not sure how accurate that is. I've read, for instance, that potato peeling that still have some green on them can hurt your chickens. So, I'd check out the links from Kevin565 and Red Barn - they know their stuff! Good luck to you!
