Cost of feed for your area? per 50# bag

Near $20 @ 50lbs Purina Flock Raiser
$16+ @ 50lbs Purina Brand Scratch Grains
$20 @ 50lbs Purina Layena

East Tennessee here... Don't know about ya'll, but there's GOTTA be a better way! It's costing me a fortune and I don't even have that many birds! They eat and eat and eat and eat....I could go on forever...whoever said "eats like a bird" whilst referencing someone who doesn't eat much...didn't know what the heck they were talking about!

I'm in Southern On, Canada

a 55lb bag of purina flock raiser is 19.XX$

a 90lb bag of mixed grain organic scratch is 20.xx$

I on occasion mix in BOSS and that runs 1$ a pound.

In Kalama Wa I paid $19.95 for a 50 lb bag of Albers Hi Lay pellets. You are close to the Excel feed plant you can go buy it from the factory for $13 or $14 for 50 lb bag. (Or so I have heard.)

I'm in the same boat. Purina is about the only brand available in this area. Can't believe the prices! With winter coming, just can't afford the feed anymore. I really need to get down to just 6 or so chickens, but oh, so hard to cull! Hate just to compost some of the girls, but no one will even take them for free and not enough meat on them to make processing worth while. Hoping to hold on for a few more weeks until they are done molting and then just keep the ones that start laying immediately. Since I have a mixed flock, are there certain breeds that have longer laying lives than others?
