Cost of feed for your area? per 50# bag

Wow - you live in Montana and all you can get is Purina? The difference in poultry supply markets is incredible.
Well, I could drive a couple hundred miles for different brands. :) Last year I had a ton ground from a local person, but the cost of corn and additives is sending his costs thru the roof also, plus I have to store the ton in my tack room. It is really depressing since I like the chickens, but I must be practical. A zillion eggs during the summer, and then dropoff during the winter even with lights and electric waterers.
 
I did not realize how fortunate I am to have so many choices in chicken feed - at a cost comparable to anything I have seen on this continent. And I live in a sparsely populated mountainous region of an island that produces almost none of its own grain.

Some people pay the same for conventional feed that I pay for organic.

I feel for you gjfarm. I wonder if different breeds might provide better egg production over winter. This is my first year with Brahma hens that are supposed to provide more winter eggs than other breeds.
