coturnix- how to pick the best breeders?

My quail laid the first egg today. I got two so far I will check again tonight to see if any more laid. I weighed them and they are about 8-9 grams. (my scales not digital) I have 6 hens that are 6 weeks and 1 day old.
Question, how long can you keep these quail eggs in the fridge before they go bad? For eating not hatching.

I would think 3 weeks to a month would be fine as long as they are kept refrigerated, My eating quail eggs never last that long though. They make the most moist muffins when you use them instead of chicken eggs..

Thanks thats good to know. I'm planning on waiting til I get quite a few so I can pickle them for my Dad. I only have 6 right now 3 yesterday and 3 the day before. By next month they will all be gone to their new home on the farm.

Determining which quails to keep as breeders is solely based on what the breeder wishes to achieve from the birds. If you want big birds, keep the biggest for breeding. If you want certain markings, keep those with the markings. And so on and so on. No one can make that decision for you. You must decide what you want, keep those, and cull the rest.

Thanks. For me I think I decided on the quietest, gentliest to hens, biggest males. With quietest and gentleiest on hens being my number one! I didn't even know that was an option before asking this question. =) Everyone has been such a big help.

I have all the roos in one cage right now except one, deciding on which other one to keep. But I have to say the roos in the cage without any females are really LOUD! LOL All the males were only about a 1/2 an ounce off from each other.
