Coturnix problems

tolik, I hope you are far from the unrest that's going on in your country.

We are here to help you grow a super chicken (quail).

(I call them chickens all the time, it just rolls off the tongue)

The numbers I post is used for egg comercial farming. I bet in US chickens that producing eggs for retail stores do not have a run and living in a limited spase. I am sorry but I did not find any books about quail keepeng at home.

I have a group of 5 week olds in a 3x3 cage. There are 18 jumbo birds in the cage and you could not physically fit that many more in there and leave room for them to move to be able to eat and drink with their feeders being in the cage.

Do you raise quail?

I have a really hard time believing even 75 standard sized coturnix could physically survive in a cage that small. Even if trough feeders hanging outside the cage and nipple waterers were used there isn't enough feed space or water access for that many birds to survive. Even being half the size of the birds we raise here.

Yep looks about like I've seen from India and a few other places where they have many mouths to feed from few sources. I still have to wonder about their numbers regarding cage size and stocking density just on the physical aspect of fitting the birds, but I wasn't disbelieving of the fact they stuff way too many into way too small of a space. Think about fitting 120 of your quail in a 3x3 cage, it just wouldn't work.

most of us also do not keep our chickens or specifically condone the practices of factory farming. We strive for happy and respected hens who share with us their bounty. They deserve dignity in life just as well as we do.
I hope I have not offended anyone, these are my feelings on the subject and I don't need "research" to tell me what I "feel" is wrong is wrong.

I second this.

Animals are living things and should not be treated inhumanely. How would you like if you were placed in a tiny room with several other humans?

These are concepts that I hope we all can agree on.

ETA, I'm an ol down south country boy, we love to make friends and treat people right. but theres an old adage that if you really want to see what kind of fellow you're dealing with, watch how he treats his animals.
