I deffinatly see your point! I really want a sportsman bator myself but 600+? OUCH! LOL! I may still beg hubby for it...but my gosh im going to feel badif i ever do get it lol...but if the egg production itself pays for it then hey maybe it wont be too bad but gosh i want it so baddd! LOL!

The eggs i have in the LG now i brought home myself from a breeder so that WAs deffinatly nice im curious to see how they hatch.

I've actually done dry incuabtion on all of my eggs i've incubated so far to date...it's at 40% during the main incubation period then 60+ at the end. can't say what's better or isn't but it works atleast somewhat for me hehe!

I feel the same way about my dog. She is outside, and has to be tied. She just loves getting the chickens. She doesn't bother them much if I'm right there with her, but she moves a lot quicker than I do!

I hope those eggs I sent you work out ok. I hate getting shipped eggs, but sometimes you have to. If the hatcheries didn't abuse the chicks so badly, or need orders of at least 25

, I would probably just get chicks.

Oh btw monarc, a fellow BYCer in KY has 10 baby A&M's he'll sell me for $1 each! So I will still be in business if my two turn out to be the same sex!

A friend of mine was selling one of those bators a week or so ago for $300!! I wanted that thing soooo bad!! I think I might get the r-com 20. I don't hatch that many anyway. IDK, I have pretty good success with my LG. But they have so far been my chickens eggs! I did try incubating somme guinea eggs I found once, and only one developed and it quit around halfway through. So who knows what's up with that. I was told not to cross-contaminate chicken and quail eggs though, so I'm guessing that means washing your hands in between? Probably works for different species as well. I just hope I can find some more guinea eggs this spring. Those birds are like gold around here!! I saw some at an auction a few weeks ago that were 8 weeks old at most. $10 each is what they went for!

monarc-i thought you would like that.

shelly- thanks, i hope i get something nice out of them. set them on sat evening so maybe tomorrow night or wednesday i will be able to see something.

$300 *dies from lack of oxygen to brain* that was probably a once in a life time sell!!! LOL! *cries*

not sure about chicken and quail eggs...i've tried hatching them together and WAS unsucessful with the chickens...and hatched out 2 buttons, however, the incy had been on teh fritz with majorly fluctuating temps(too hot too cold) since the begining so im not sure what that could be blamed on. I'll proabbly be bad and incubate chicken eggs with quail eggs again if i do i'll letya know how it turns out haha

and ouchie!!! 10 per them? gosh them my neighbor is rich that guy has over 2 dozen easy...whites, pieds, lavanders...they're a pretty sight from across the woods when they get spooked by somethign all flying up in the air...looks like someoen throwing colorful paper into the air...they're kinda annoying but not to the point that it aggrivates me (and persistant sounds do normally aggrivate me example: dogs barking). I'd own a few someday but probably won't

My beagle pup hasn't gotten any yet that I know of, but she sure likes to aggravate them! She was getting chased by one of my dad's hens today, an aracauna mix. She thought it was playing with her! The hen would chase her, then the pup would chase the hen, back and forth till I yelled at the pup! I think that's the problem with my other dog. She is also a pup, about 8 months old, and she would never really chase the chickens, just run through a pack of them and make them fly away. Until I got some that she was able to catch! I couldn't figure out what was getting my chickens till I saw her, happy as a lark, bouncing through the yard with my only pullet in her mouth!!
We do have a dog that does not bother them though. She has been taught what she can and can't mess with. She acted like she thought our potbelly pig baby was a rat at first, and she was very interested in the bunnies, being half beagle and all, but she doesn't mess with the birds. If she could fly, I wouldn't even need to worry about the hawks!
I had a hawk try to get a chicken once, and she chased it off. Too bad it had gotten the chick bad enough to kill it anyway.

Good luck!! You have no idea how thick those shells are! And they are dark too! I wouldn't be surprised if it took you till day 14 to tell! Just make sure you candle from the top down through the air cell. Easiest way to see the veins!

I do agree some dogs are wonderful with poultry, but some people trust too easily and it's like ...ya know they do eat meat right? LOL! My now passed Coonhound/dobie mix Sam and my beagle/aussie mix Ged (also now passed) were the two best dogs ever..never killed a thing, but would help us hunt rabbits (we wouldnt kill the rabbits, but it was fun to say "go get teh bunnie" and they'd go running off nito the woods us following behind and in no time sam (dobie coonhound mix) was standing at a bush wagging her tail and barking and Ged would plow into the bushand pull out a rabbit...NOT with his mouth...wiht his front paws...he'd pull the rabbit out it was the most halarious thing ever....no bunnies were hurt during any of it either but boy were they scared.

We had a potbellied pig, 3 nasty turkeys, chickens galore, geese, ducks, 2 pet rabbits that free ranged (yes that's right free ranged) that they never touched. So it's deffinatly possible, but who knows someday those two could have turned cujo though i deffiantly would have been suprised lol!!! They that i know of didnt ever protect our livestock but they also ddint pay any mind to them either, knowing that they were apartof the family I assume...those two dogs i'd give anythign to have back....they were my guardians:)

My one cat, i can say wiht almost 100% trust would never hurt my birds...however if she did evne though it'd suprise me highly...the reality of what she is would make my surprise short lived
