All of my quail are still laying, too, which is amazing considering our days are only about 8-9 hours long and it's below freezing. Go figure.

Shelly... my DH said he sent you some button eggs... did they make it ok?

Uh-oh!! Busted!

Yeah they made it just fine, There was one that was really light green that cracked when I was getting a different one out of the carton, just barely bumped it, silly thing! Another was stuck in there and broke when I was getting them out of the carton, but it looked like it had been cracked already, it was pretty dry inside. Is he always such a kidder?? I told him my situation with the others I had gotten, and he said taking into account the gorillas (not sure of the exact term) in the p.O. handling, plus the temps and my recent hatch success, I should get at least 2!

I would be happy with 2!

Niki says my little one looks like a girl, and fat lot of good that's gonna do me being the only 1!!

Uh oh... :| Was I not supposed to say anything?

Sorry!
Sounds like the gorillas were gentle if you only had a couple broken. I can't say I've ever seen my husband pack eggs before, but he ships water samples in glass bottles all the time without breakage so it sounds like he did good.

And yes... he's ALWAYS a kidder!!
I will

Thanks! I didn't know since you hadn't said anything, I didn't want him to get in trouble

He had said that you had stopped shipping for the season because of the weather, so I didn't know if he'd said anything.
They got her in 3 days. I beleive he said he sent them on Wednesday, and they got here on Saturday. They are in their own bator, so I can keep the humidity up. I had a bit of trouble with the temp when I first set them (of course!!) but it didn't get too high. I have since closed the vent in that room so the furnace doesn't raise the bator to much!

LOL! Oh, he's not in trouble. We had dipped down below 0°F for about 3 days, so I figured we were done. But it had warmed up considerably by the time he shipped them. He knew he couldn't hide it, though, because I usually get the mail and would have questioned the MO.

I just hope you get some babies!!

He did a really good job of packing them, much better than I do, IMO. He must have been taking notes!

I am still learning though, that's my excuse! I pack mine the way I was told by another BYCer, and so far the least broken was 4 out of 30. These are chickens eggs btw. I sent some to the1much, 30 as well, and 14 were broken!! I felt so bad!!

With the chicken eggs, I wrap them individually in a strip of bubblewrap, then wrap the wrapped eggs in more bubble wrap in groups of 9... makes a neat little bundle. Then I "suspend" the bundle(s) in the middle of crumpled or shredded paper, to help cushion against drops, kicks, hockeysticks, etc...

So far so good, only a few mishaps, but it takes a good solid gorilla-hit to break 'em.

Just keep practicing!!
