This has some great info..I was particularly interested in the feeding. I was wondering though, shouldn't they have a good place for flight..since this is really what they do? Not like chickens. I see that you have some nice separate cages for breeding, do they have a flight cage? Is it needed? I'm wondering because I am getting my first quail eggs tomorrow or Wed. I will be putting them in with my bantams..they have a flight cage. Is that ok, to put them in with small bantams?

Coturnix do not fly. They do not perch. They are ground dwellers.

It is not recommended to house them with chicken due to disease transference.

ETA: they fly but it's more to run away like fly, they cannot sustain it.

You rock! I jumped in and wrangled myself 4 eggs for free. I put them in the incubator and then thought "uh oh in I have 18 days to figure out what to do with these guys" LOL

im thinking about building a giant aviary in june and was wondering if jumbo coturnix can be bred naturally or if they are like hybrids or too big to breed naturally if so how manny males to say 100females would be good?

Coturnix females very very rarely will brood. I has happened, but you can't count on it on a regular basis. They will breed fine, but the eggs will still have to be incubated. I have never bred that many, numbers would say 16-20 males at 5-6 hens per cock bird, but I have no idea what the reality is in that type of pen.

lol just Q-balling ideas cant rly decide if i want qail or not in going back and forth yes no yes no yes
