Oh how I wish I had lavenders!! I had 3, 2 regular and one pied. Everyone of them disappeared. I couldn't find anywhere to put them where they wouldn't get picked on. On Halloween they weren't in the building when we got back, and in the morning only one was there. That one disappeared a few days later. I figure they went to the trees and an owl got them. They were only about 8 weeks old. They used to bunk with the silkies, but the guineas were in a cage, once I let them out, the silkies would peck their heads something fierce!! Silkies are sweet to people but they are mean chickens!!

Oh and the $10 each was for babies

There was a buff hen I would have loved to have to go with mine...she went for $25...too rich for me!

Good luck!! You have no idea how thick those shells are! And they are dark too! I wouldn't be surprised if it took you till day 14 to tell! Just make sure you candle from the top down through the air cell. Easiest way to see the veins!

what kinda eggies did ya sell her? *nosey* LOL!

OUCH to the prices! LOL!

as for that about silkies that's halarious...i love the look of silkies and am hoping to get over my fear and get them this spring (fear of losing them to predators after getting attached). I just think ti would be funny to see a afluff ball being nasty to other chickens HAHA!

They are mostly SLW mixes/pures, and I think there were some white rock mixes/pures, and maybe a RIR mix/pure in there. Might have b een some columbian rock mixes too, not sure what their eggs look like! But she wanted mostly SLW, and those lay a pretty red and white speckled egg, so they are easy to pick out! (And I say mixes/pures because there are a total of 45 birds in the pen. 3 SLW roos with 4 hens, 2 RIR roos with 20ish hens, and 2 rock roos with 3 white and 2 columbian hens! My dad's mix, he WILL BE seperating them!!) Ok more like 30ish on the RIR hens, I thought so to begin with, but my brain is not working properly tonight! Or this mornig, as it were.

We have hatched, or rather, I have hatched some of those eggs before. I have been incubating for about 6 months, so I figure by now I'm pretty much a candling expert

I couldn't see much of anything in those eggs!

i will candle the shell off them, if i don't see any thing. they won't grow because i will always have them out candling. lol i will think there is nothing going on and that i killed them. then i will think there is something wrong with the new bator. o boy. the stress. lol

I have had 6 young silkies free ranging all summer with no problems. There was one week that I lost 5 or 6 young OEGB in about 4 days, and the silkies would range with most of the ones that disappeared. I think the hawks see all the fluff and figure the silkies are too big for them! If they only knew!!

I personally think they are ugly!

Their combs look like a tumor growing out of their heads! But my DS loves them. He is in love with any funny looking bird, so this spring he will have frizzled polish!

Saves me the money and space of having frizzles and polish that way! And he calls them all feather chickens, so cute. He especially likes feather-footed breeds, which is my least fav.
