Coturnix Quail coop. Do quails get bored?

I read recently that quails can get bored if they aren't foraging, so I refurbished an old playground set to be a coop with a doggy cage attached to the side. Before the pictures I posted here it was empty with some rocks that act as ledges. For the most part they would just burrow in the ground or look out the wire caging and tan in the sun.

So now I've put in some flower pots and buckets and a basket and a bunch of sticks and old bamboo everywhere. I also sprinkle in some mealworms throughout the area of the coop and mix it into their bedding.

I just want my quail to be happy and 9 of them lives in this coop. Is this too small or doing too much?

Thanks.

That's very little space, to be honest.

I don't know that quail get bored like frankly more intelligent animals, but they start to display certain behaviors when they feel trapped or anxious to get away, e.g. pacing against the walls of their cage, staring at the outside.

Comfy quail in most weather are laying on their side, sitting calmly in cover, scratching in their substrate, dust bathing, sunbathing, etc.

I think right now you have too many quail for the space you can provide. You might remove cover they use the least to free up room for a dust bath. Also, is there any other a way you could add more secure square footage, like what you did with the dog cage?

Yes I absolutely can, and I removed a pot out. Maybe in the future when I'm done building I'll post it here. Thanks for your feedback.

That is really cluttered, how do you keep it clean and find eggs? I’d ditch most of the clutter, free up some floor space, maybe just have some branches/small logs they can duck under or behind? Mine just live in a large dog crate or a rabbit hutch with 1 sq foot per bird, a few branches (never liked the plastic or cardboard hidey holes) and their feed and water. They seem sort of like goldfish, they don’t really get bored that easy (rearrange the sticks on occasion!).
