Coturnix Weigh-In here at Catawbas Coturnixs LOL

What kind of scale do you use to weigh them? I would love to weigh mine but can't get the boogers to hold still on my balance scale...

I have several females that are quite hefty but my males are puny

I use precision digital kitchen scales. I velcro'd an ice-cream carton to the scales and set it to zero to make it easier weighing those quail that wont stay still long enough to take a reading.

I just purchased a My Weigh I5000 scale and it is very accurate and reasonably inexpensive. (Amazon.com). It is actually a bird scale, too.

I just took a plastic bowl with loose lid and placed each bird in it and they were still and quiet while weighing. I also used a large outdoor floodlight box at one point and it worked fine, too.

My largest birds are 9.85 oz. Texas A&M. Smallest around 6.5 oz.

Getting ready to begin collecting eggs from the largest birds to place in my incubator and hope for bigger and better birds!

cool sounding scale!!! I use a digital kitchen one just like Suz does. I wish you the best luck with getting them bigger, that's my goal too!

Suz, i know i wish they were bigger....im working towards it. Thers soooo many people who say they have jumbos, then they sell them to someone else, and the person doesnt see any difference between them and their pharoahs. My biggest birds came from Sam, and a breeder that let me pick whatever adult A&M hen i wanted (because she ran out of young females for me to pick) and i picked hte MONSTER! LOL! So with the three "biggest"i'm hoping to make other biggies...true jumbos eventually i hope.

Cody, yeppers in ounces

Niki that is what I like about only being a small breeder. We can both focuss on quality and size of birds.....instead of trying to mass produce. That is what I was doing with my birds before and obviously it worked. I'm excited to get back into the game and have a lot of good looking birds growing out in the brooder.

Yeppers that's exactly it. That's what makes me picky about buying birds from others is I can't rely on size unless they have proof. I am excited for both of us!!!

I have seen some birds on Ebay from a lady in Jeffersonville, GA. I spoke with her via email about her birds and she tells me that her birds are 13 and 14 ounces. The pics on Ebay of her birds surely seem to show them as very large. The Tuxedo's are beautiful.

I am planning on ordering some eggs from her in a few weeks to see what she has. She is only a two hour drive from me and says I am welcome to come p/u the eggs and she would be willing to hatch some for me if I wanted chicks. Seems like a nice lady with a lot of experience and been in business for a while.

But like SamG said, seeing is believing!
