Couch to 5k - training for people new to running

I went running again & thought of you guys. Remember when I said it gets easier? I was LYING. Last night was tough tough tough. I think it's b/c I hadn't eaten a good mid-afternoon snack, but still. It was hard.

Still, I ran 1 block & walked 1 block for 2 miles. That's a lot better than I could do a couple of weeks ago. I got behind on the training, so for right now I'm focusing on doing that, then will start decreasing the walking times until I can do the entire 2 miles.

I ran yesterday too, for a total of about 50 minutes running and walking. It was awful! I think the problem was that it was really, really hot. I was gassed midway through, and I'm still on week one.

Still, I'm immensely happy with myself for sticking with it, even though it is awful. I think I'm covering about 2.5 miles or so, but only 10 minutes out of all that time is spent running. I feel like a faker when people see me jog by, because once I'm around the next curve, I'm back to walking again.

On a more positive note, I found a nice expanse of an old railroad trail that's maintained for walkers, runners, and bikers, and it is only 10 minutes from my house and is on my way home from work. So I'm stopping there every other day on the way home and doing my run. I can't do it in the morning, I'm too evil then.

Good luck!!

Live vicariously through me, then! I was on the brink yesterday of giving up but went ahead and did it anyway. It relit the fire under my booty to stay off the couch.

And I was rewarded by a find of 2 dozen pint jars for canning that I discovered on the side of the road during my run. I never would have found those if I'd stayed on my lumpy, saggy, old couch.

Now that I would have liked to have seen, you jogging carrying 2 dozen pint jars!!!

Seriously though, I admire you all, I really would like to be able to run even jog but I've never been able to breathe properly so I always get pains in my stomach. So when I said I was dreaming of running, it is soo true, and I'm always smiling/happy in my dream doing it but still haven't gotten off the couch!!!

Oh HECK no! I finished my run then got in the car and drove to pick up the jars. I should add that said jars are now filled with jam:

HEy rhonda, I thought of something while I was running...
Everyone is saying how it seems to be harder right now, but as I went back through all the posts, I realized there's not many actually following the program. Maybe instead of doing 50 minutes, you should stick to the programs 30 and ease your body into it. Should help build up your stamina first. I haven't overdone the 30 minutes (I think one day I drug it out an extra three minutes) but I feel great, and I dont find it any more difficult now than the first day, and I actually find it esier to get motivated because afterwards I feel great for the rest of the day.
Not telling ya'll what to do, just trying to think of ssomething to make it easier for everyone to stay on track!

We'll, I've been cleared to run. I haven't been cleared to put weight on the pad of my left foot.
So, I guess I'll run in the pool. In the deep end. With one of those waist flotation devices.
At least I can do something besides sit and spend time on BYC. Not that I don't love you guys...
