Couch to 5k - training for people new to running

I am! I run Monday, Wednesday and Friday after work. I just finished week 2 and I start week 3 this week. It's still very, very hard, but I am improving. I have some knee pain that I'm hoping I can work through.

I've got a great running mentor in my uncle, who has advided me to keepa runners journal listing when I ran, how far, how fast, what the temperature was, what I wore, and what I'd eaten. He says it will help me to find my optimum running plan. I'm going to start once I'm really running outright, and not running a bit then walking a bit.

What's helped recently is slowing down. I was running way too fast. Now I run at a slow jog, and I'm not so winded. I'm never really physically tired, because I'm thin and in decent shape, but I have a lot of trouble with the cardiovascular side of it, and going slower helps me not to gas out.

I'm getting a treadmill today - trading my elliptical machine for it with a friend. She likes ellipticals, I like treadmills, so we made a deal. This way I can run when the weather is really bad too. I'm excited. I think this is going to be a longterm thing for me.

I'm registering for my first 5K at the end of September, by then I should be able to run that distance.

yay! Good job girls! Did my first day of week two friday, then sat I went swimming for 3 hours after running around all day at work so I didnt feel the need to run, and today was nuts at work again and I'm exhausted now so I prob wont run until tommorrow but I am excited because I def feel better those days then when I dont! Anyway, keep up the good work everyone! I am going to the beach this friday by which time I should have started week three and I'm considering either repeating week 2 down there (due to it being much warmer and more humid) or just doing the first day of week three over and over until I get back lol. What do you all think? I know that I def dont want to take the whole week off bc most likely I wont start again!
 
I haven't run for a few days but finally confessed to DBF that I've been training in secret. I think he'll join me from time to time now.

I tried week 3 day 1 today and I'm not ready for it. I gassed out badly and had terrible chest pain. I'm back to week 2 for another few days until I try week 3 again. Oh well, it's still better than sitting around.
 
rhonda that's ok, I still have two days left of week two (I ran yesterday but only for about 15 minutes befor eI had to leave so I'm not counting it) and I think I've decided rather than stress myself and exhaust myself on vacation, I'm just going to redo week two. then I know I'll be ready for week 3. So dont worry...I'll be doing week 2 at least until the 19th with ya! :-D
 
wow so I didnt run a single day at the beach so it's now officially been about a week and a half...ugh. And I can feel it but I just have so much to do and I cant get my butt to do it!!! What a slacker Ive become
