Coughing, then sneezing, bubbly eye, splattering blood on wall?

I have 7 chickens, I just bought 4 new ones. One hen began coughing then sneezing, very few tiny filthy ugly eggs,like a raspy cough, tonight bubbly eye and coughing huge clots of blood ALL OVER THE WALL. I culled her. I have had them for 4 weeks. So if the others start the same should I dispose the whole flock and give up? I have raised pigeons for years and I dont want to infect them.

I have had chickens for years and had them get sick from time to time but I have never had one cough up blood. I would not go ahead and dispose of them until you get a definate answer though.

sounds like ILT.....I think they quarantine for that....I am not sure

Oh, my. Sounds like ILT, Infectious Laryngotracheitis. Very contagious, very serious. Are they separated from the others?? They cannot be saved at all, as I understand it. and you really don't want to, either, since they would be carriers. I'd cull them all and use something very strong to disinfect the coop to within an inch of its life.

Go ahead and start the others on antibiotics until you get an answer. If possible contact the seller to see if they are haveing this issue. Are the others sick or showing symtoms?

Thats crazy is this disease contagious to humans?

What's crazy? Culling seriously ill birds? This is a reportable disease in most states, I believe. And it's the main one that has that symptom of blood all over the walls. I take it back. Call your state poultry lab and tell them what's happening. Then see if they will come get one of the birds for testing or if you can bring one in. If this is ILT, and you will not be certain without testing, you do not want to keep those birds, even if they could survive. Most diseases birds contract are not transmittable to humans, but that is not the point.

I know this is GA and you are in KY, but this is Ga's Reportable Disease List. And it's a misdemeanor not to report certain diseases to the state, at least here. It will give an indication of how serious certain diseases are.

Misunderstood you, Jeff. Sorry! Some people react badly to my suggestion to cull ill birds. Maybe I'm super sensitive tonight, LOL.

Matt, I'm so sorry this has happened to you. It's why I never buy started birds, ever.
