Coughing, then sneezing, bubbly eye, splattering blood on wall?

No after I reread it I can see where anyone might misunderstand. There is a big swap next weekend that is nearby. Now I will quarentine anything I get there at my parents house. How long would you suggest? I always bring back somtehing. Never a disease though I have senn very sick animals there.

You need to contact your state agriculture department to have them tested. If it is ILT it can spread extremely easily. You can even carry it on your clothes/shoes to the feed store and transfer it another person. They then take it to their flock.

If the eggs were odd shaped, I think that points towards infectious bronchitis.

The recommended quarantine period is 4-6 weeks. Usually, a hidden illness will show itself in that period, but not always. Quarantine is not foolproof due to the carrier status of some birds. If they are not unduly stressed by the move to their new home, they may not show symptoms, yet still be carriers. And during quarantine, you should not give antibiotics as they can mask symptoms that you really want to show themselves.

We had ILT in our flock two years ago. And yes, I would say you've got it. It is treatable; contact the chicken doctor www.firststatevetsupply for his vaccine, which also helps sick birds. But cull or not, treat or not, you need to disinfect now. With oxine. And any dead birds, bury them deep and far away, or burn them. Everyone else is right; it spreads like anything and it is a miserable thing for the birds to have to deal with; I'll spare you the details of why they're coughing up blood. And it's also true that it's reportable in most states. If iw were you i'd get the vaccine from the chicken doctor (peter brown) and vaccinate your other birds; it will probably help, and may give you some peace of mind. They will not become carriers from the vaccine; it's an eyedrop vaccine and easy to administer.

Is it contagious to pigeons? I only have 6 chickens so quarautine is for all six I guess. My vet is sending the carcass to UK labs for testing. How bout my eggs in the fridge? I never kept this hens eggs. her eggs werent misshapen just puny and nasty.

Just to reiterate...they will not be carriers, if you vaccinate them while they are sick. I said to contact Peter Brown b/c he will know what vaccine to get you; there are different kinds, and with some the birds do become carriers, but not with the one we used. We vaccinated the whole flock. Yes, we lost some, but we had sick birds recover, and some are still with us. We have gotten many new birds since then, and have never had ILT again. Just make sure you disinfect like mad. The living quarters, the birds themselves, their feed dishes and waterer.

Yes. It is contagious to all birds. Vaccinate the pigeons too. The vaccine is not too expensive, and you get enough to vaccinate a lot of birds.

crap. I never have any luck vaccinating my pigeons. I have killed more by the needle than the disease would have. From what I have read from state sites they say partrige chicken peafowl and pheasant. Well The body will go out on monday.

It's not an injectable vaccine. It's an eyedrop. Very easy to administer. Really. For the oxine, mix 15 drops of oxine per gallon of water for their drinking water, and give it to all of them. Mix 6.5 ounces of oxine to one gallon of water for disinfection. You don't have to fog with it, you can just put it in a spray bottle and even mist the birds themselves. Use oxine, not bleach, and don't waste any time., don't wait for the results to come back, start disinfecting and vaccinating now. It won't hurt them. Don't get the Oxinecrystals, get the liquid oxine.
