Could these be giant pullet eggs?

I found these eggs today. They are in a coop with 2 bantam RIR hens, and gersey giant pullets and white egg layers, leghorns and Jaerhons.
I know for a fact the last BRIR eggs I got were almost white. These look a little bigger then them as well, but are small compaired to my store bought eggs. Could they be from my Jersey Giant pullets? Do they lay a dark egg? OR have the RIR's just suddenly improved their egg color?

They're probably JG pullet eggs. I have Jerseys that lay different shades of brown, some darker than others. Pullet eggs are generally smaller at first.

Wow then. I didn't expect them to be so dark. I wish my jersey giant roo was older. he is only 3 months old. But I guess I could put these girls in with my Welsummer roo and see what happens? Might get a giant drak egg layer out of that!!

It's not unusual for the first eggs to be dark, especially in the winter months when egg production is low. Once they start laying regular, the color will lighten up some.

I would think that you'd probably get something in size between the two if you decided to use your Welsummer roo. I wouldn't use new pullet eggs, though, not until they start laying consistenly large eggs. Chicks hatched from small pullet eggs are usually weak and undersized. They don't do as well as the larger, more mature sized eggs.

I would not use them for breeding birds right now anyway. It is too cold to hatch chicks. But it is something to think about for spring!!
