Countdown to Baby Chicks 2023 edition

Pics
I got my shipping notice from Ideal Poultry tonight... The Post Office says delivery by tomorrow! I talked to my letter carrier and she said they hold and call for chicks-- I'm hoping for an early call tomorrow!

Now, I just have to decide if I need some olive eggers to go with the chicks I have coming in tomorrow. Both Tractor Supply and my local feed store have chicks coming in next Tuesday. The new coop and run I'm building should be good for at least 15 chickens.

:wee
How exciting! 😊

How exciting! 😊

It's like Christmas Eve! Who knows if I'll be able to sleep.

I have the brooder set up and temperature stabilized. I just have to add food and the vitamin/mineral water. (I haven't mixed it yet since it is only supposed to be in the waterer for 24 hours.) New bag of chick starter/grower is ready to open, too. Once I actually have the chicks home, I will mix a small batch of warm mash to help them get started.

At the risk of being stereotypical: "Yee-haw, y'all!"

This was my favorite thread last year! Once you place a 2023 order, post the details! We can pass the time together! Once you get your new babies, let us know and post pics!

Where did you order from?

What did you order?

When will they hatch/how many weeks or months left?

I know it’s early…but I put 2 orders in for June next year already! 😂 I will live vicariously through all of you who get chicks long before that. School lets out here in June, so we get them when the kids (and teacher parents) can spend all day doting on them!
Okay, ordered 12 chicks from mypetchicken.com. They are scheduled to be sent out this coming Monday, and as a 1st time chicken gal, I am super excited! 3 barred rock, 3 buff orpingtons, 2 golden laced wyandottes, 2 Colombian wyandottes and 2 black copper marans. Have the brooder set up and ready to go from Hatching Time company. Scratch and Peck starter crumbles. Grogel. Nervous but excited!

Chicks arrived safely! All seem to be doing okay in the brooder, too. The green chunks in the brooder are bits of "Grow Gel". They seem to be more interested in the crumbles scattered on the floor and in the feeder, though.

I ordered chicks from Cackle Hatchery as well as ducklings.
- Buff Orpington cockerel (to go with my buff and Lavendar Orpingtons and my black australorps)
- 15 assorted heavy layer (it’s going to be like Christmas seeing what they turn into!!)
- 5 Ancona ducklings (4F/1M)
They will be arriving April 10th.

Then Embden geese from Metzer (2M/3F). I wanted to make sure that if one male gosling passed I had a backup. It was hard finding geese for sale. This was my third breed of choice. I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason. So maybe this breed is best for us and I will fall in love. 🥰 They arrive April 17th….I need more brooder space 😅
