im pretty new to chickens and i was wondering what the difference in some of the assortments on ideal were.
assorted standard chick pullet
assorted standard heavy pullet
and
assorted standard brahma pullet

i ordered standard chick and standard brama, because some of the pictures of standard chick and standard heavy looked the same.

what are some types of breeds i could expect from assorted chick and assorted brahma?

thanks

heres the chicks ( i have no clue what any of them are lol)

here was the answer to my email they sent me.

The assorted chicks are white laying chicks, brown laying chicks, and ornamental poultry. We do not provide you with a list of the breeds that are in your order.

The assorted Brahmas are light, buff and dark.

Assorted heavies are mostly brown egg laying chickens. Barred rocks, Rhode island Reds, New Hampshire’s and Sex links are examples of heavy’s.

i was jus curious to know if any of the 3 assortments had any overlap really.

I believe there would be overlap - a heavy breed is still a standard, but some standards are not considered to be heavy. The ideal 236 would not be considered heavy but its still a standard size, a RIR is a big chicken, mine is a heavy girl but she is still a standard.

A standard can be "light" or "heavy"

Offering a standard assortment, you'd get light and heavy.

The heavy assortment would only be the heavy and no lights.

The assorted chick could really be anything. With this order, you get the surplus pullets of whatever is available that day. You may get all bantams for that matter.

The Brahmas are the same breed just different varieties.

The Assorted heavy assortment means you will get dual purpose birds (for meat and eggs).

Welcome to the world of chickens!

Be aware that sexing is only 90% accurate at best, so a roo may sneak in there. You'll love Ideal's brahmas. I love mine. Only I'm trying to figure out since when a brahma isn't considered a heavy. Let me go tell my 13 1/2 lb. brahma rooster he needs to lose a few pounds.
