Hi everyone
First time poster here.
Yesterday one of my girls was attacked by a coyote with a large gash (almost looks like it pulled the layer of skin back) and puncture wound under her wing. I managed to stop the bleeding and sprayed it with vetericyn and applied a layer of neosporin. The wound is currently wrapped with gauze and vet wrap. Shes safely resting by herself in a box in my house. She was eating and drinking after and I haven’t been home to watch her today. I’m prepared for the worst but hoping for the best. Just wanted to see if anyone had any other recommendations or advice.

seems like you're doing the best you can. good luck.

It's a great sign that she's already eating and drinking on her own and it sounds like you've done the right things to give her a good chance at healing. Chickens are generally very resilient to injuries like that as long as they don't succumb to infection. Keep a close eye on her for any signs of infection. If it were my chicken, I would consider starting a round of antibiotics now to hopefully nip any possible infection in the bud.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice! Any recommendations on an antibiotic? I don’t have any local poultry vets.

I was able to keep a quail alive for two weeks with just antibiotic ointment and electrolyte water. she eventually died, but considering she was missing a huge chunk of her side, I wasn't surprised. I have hope for your bird, considering it still wants to drink. only a truly dying animal will refuse water.

Im so sorry to hear that, I don't have any added advice other than watch for infection. My thoughts are with you
