Coyotes

Coyotes hunt in packs. This is 9ne reason why people need more than one livestock guard dog to properly protect stock from coyotes. One (or a group) will distract the LGD while the other (s) move in for the kill.
Coyotes are not intimidated by a single dog, even one bred specifically to protect its chargesm

My coyotes must be behind the times or didn't get the notice on coyote behavior. :) We only see one at a time and they don't mess around my house except once that I know of. I believe they snatched a small dog I had. They got a few small dogs around here.

Same, until this morning that is.

Please think again about the beautiful singing coyotes.
We just lost our 2.5 yr. old RIR "Cinnamon", less than 3 hrs. ago to a coyote. We were standing not 20' away talking about our goats. Even if we had a weapon shouldered and scanning the edge of the woods it happened in less than 3 seconds. I saw a grey blur and a trail of feathers, I only hope Cinnamon had a quick death. Do Not give these jokers a Nano second of trust!!!!!!
Absolute vigilance is paramount. We became lax in our diligence, Mr. Mossberg will accompany us from now on.

I have coyotes all around our property also. That is why my chickens only get one hour of free range time in the evening with me supervising. I am convinced if I let them out all day, I would lose every single chicken :(
And badgers......

I have coyotes howling around here. On the plus side, last year at this time we had foxes eating the neighborhood chickens.

Do foxes avoid a coyote's territory?
They do normally coyote's see fox as food so 9 times out of 10 fox will stay clear of coyotes. Thats how it is anywhere i've been in ohio anyways.
