Thanks for your replies, when I got up in the morning the egg had been completely squashed and broken and the duckling was dead
there was another egg with a huge hole in it but the sack wasn't broken (I'm thinking the mother has done this...) and with a couple of days to go I thought I should just leave it (I put a lil bit ofductape
round the outside to try to keep the dirt out), but your right duckyfromoz... the moister goes very fast and it had shrink wrapped.. so I made a hole where the beak was so to try to help the ducky breath (still wasn't due to hatch) but the mother kinda pulled him out of the egg and ate the remaining egg yolk and egg shell.. I think before he was ready.. so the ducky died
Is the mother just being impatient? Or is it because they aren't her breed of egg, she's too heavy/big for them..? She's a scovy and these are runner ducklings. There are 12 I'm pretty positive that are alive (heard them pecking and the egg and peeping
so I'm just going to keep an eye on them and hopefully they'll be out soon enough) ...I hope the mother leaves them alone, or could it be something else breaking the eggs?
Iamcuriositycat - I've chucked about 3 rotten eggs away
and it was pretty obvious they were bad, but yeah these two were alive.
On a good note though, hopefully see some pips tomorrow morning
